NC State to introduce Mark Gottfried as new basketball coach

Though, some details worry me: he resigned under what very well appears to be recruiting violations, and was an assistant to Harrick--one of the scummiest, dirtiest, violation-happy coaches in college sports history.

This does not bode well with our history. I only hope that he has not only put that behind him, but is able to hire the right people that he can trust to be free of such shenanigans.

I was hoping for someone more prominent, but I'll give Coach Gottfried a chance. Everyone "better" was either already in a solid program or moving to a school with personal connections.

At least State didn't settle for a Frank Haith... what was Mizzou thinking?

I don't understand this hire. Couldn't they find a young, successful coach of a smaller school? Getting a good, but not great coach from a mediocre conference is a recipe for more mediocrity, imho.

No one
wants this job. He needs a job.

Lowe needed a job, and was hired after the 5th young, high-profile coach turned us down.

We shall see, though. I would think that recruiting for NCSU allows more potential than recruiting for Alabama when ti comes to basketball, so perhaps his goodness in a weak conference will allow for better things with a better potential recruit base.

Yow probably shouldnt have used her @ncsu.edu address as the reply to.

😀

...this is a joke, right. For whatever reason, I feel this is entirely probable. Or at least a joke posting that I missed, being on the other side of the country from the conversation.
