The only real problem with his command line is the inclusion of the word 'time', 'shutdown -HP -t 10 now' would probably work fine although I don't see a reason to change -t and powering the box off is the default as long as ACPI is working. Personally, I always just type 'halt' or 'reboot'.

Yea that and I, and probably others, don't always reread the OP since they assume they already know what it says.
