"Tame content"? So you've got conservative groups whining about it and then there's no sex in it? Sounds like a show designed to please no one.

I see they've replaced it with a police detective show. It's about time some one gave that neglected niche some love. They should just film the janitor shitting in a bag at this point and call it a new show. At least the production costs would be low.

The Playboy Club is actually being replaced with a prime time news magazine. They just cannot get it on air before the end of the month. It was supposed to be a mid season replacement for whatever hour long time slot that needed filling.

Since the news show cannot air right now, the time slot has reruns of Prime Suspect to try and get people to watch Prime Suspect. Prime Suspect is also on the chopping block. If its number don't increase it will get canned at mid season(or sooner).

I had hope for it. Amanda Heard (who I had never heard of) looked good in that costume.

Me too. I only watched the first eps but I liked it, and have the second and third ready to watch. Guess I won't be watching them now

The PTC released a statement saying they were pleased with the cancellation:

“Bringing The Playboy Club to broadcast television was a poor programming decision from the start. We’re pleased that NBC will no longer be airing a program so inherently linked to a pornographic brand that denigrates and sexualizes women … we hope other broadcasters heed the important lessons of this programming debacle.”

gah. as bad as this show was, I now wish it could have stayed on, if only to continually piss-off groups like PTC and make them more and more irrelevant.

OMG--it sexualizes women? How dare they! Women shouldn't be sexual creatures! they belong in the kitchen and should be subservient lumber next to their men, only to be used for making babies!

fuck those fucksticks. hope they all die.

...can we just send them all back to Holland, please?

They tried to make it like Mad Men, but since you can't show anything people want to see on TV due to censorship, it failed.

Mad Men doesn't show titties either, but it still makes for compelling television.

because the regular channels suck, they're subject to FCC regulations plus harsher sponsor censorship. fox is pretty much the only channel worth watching that comes over the air.

Just watched the 3rd episode. This show is as good as most on network TV. Not sure why it was cancelled.

Because it had terrible ratings. IIRC it had tied for the lowest rating ever for a series premiere for a new show.

It's 1000X better than Brothers and Sisters and Desperate Housewives. And the Big Bang Theory.
It's on the wrong night.

That reason alone has killed many shows before. It's really not a surprise.

NBC has oddly not figured out how to slot their shows yet and just let freshman shows go up against the biggest baddest shows. Massive advertising campaigns I'm sure help somewhat, but really unless it's a great show from the getgo and stays great, it's pretty screwed.
