Scottie Pippen is telling friends he will follow through on his plans to retire after a 17-year career that featured six NBA championships, seven All-Star games, two Olympic gold medals and inclusion as one of the league's 50 greatest players

He will retire with career averages of 16.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.96 steals per game. His 208 career playoff games rank second to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's 237.

Pippen also made 10 straight NBA All-Defensive teams.

in other news....Todd MacCulloch retires too! :Q

The 7-foot MacCulloch was Philadelphia's second-round pick in 1999. After two seasons with the Sixers, he signed with New Jersey, then was traded back to Philadelphia in 2002 along with Keith Van Horn in the deal that sent Dikembe Mutombo to the Nets.

As a Husky Fan, I was saddened to find out about MacCulloch's condition. He was really starting to look good when he was playing with Phily his second time around, and I thought he had a good future. As a side note, when I lived in the University District, he lived in the same building as my (now) wife and I. Drove an old(er) Toyota sedan, the driver seat was pretty much all the way back, few inches shy of being IN the back seat :)

Screw Pippen. Ever since the "If I don't take the last shot I'm not playing" incident, I have no respect for the man.

Pippen became the NBA's most grossly overpaid scumbag when he left the Bulls then later became a member of the Jailblazers.

seeing as he has barely played the past two seasons, I'd say it's about freaking time!

Very true. He stunk as the go to man, but he shined as the "next man in line."
You can't take away the fact that he was still a great player, though.

Yea...great Robin to Batman...too bad players like Garnett/Marbury....Carter/McGrady....now Shaq/Kobe couldn't stay together.

Always two there are, no more no less.

Pippen put up his numbers when Jordan was out briefly in the mid-90's......but he was never the player to take complete control of the game or have that type of influence to change a game. Playing with Jordan in his prime.....Jordan could make almost any player look good. Pippen had skills.....a good shot.....scrappy defense...going to the basket.......etc. I think Pippen was good....on of the 50 greatest?? I'm not so sure about that........if he didn't have Jordan than he would just be an above average player.
