Man WTF was Kidd doing calling a timeout on a fast break opportunity when the Mavs were on that 20-2 run? The look on Doncic's face was priceless like WTF are you doing coach? Completely broke Dallas' momentum when they were so ridiculously on fire.
I get why he called it there though. The game got sloppy, by both teams, for like the prior 40 or so seconds and I think he just wanted to calm his guys down because they had just had a sloppy turnover and just seemed out of sync at that time.

But I also would have completely understood why he wouldn't call one in that instance too, for the reasons you said.

Seemed like Boston got all the 50/50 calls and that sixth on Doncic was rough when Brown was pushing off on him. Was really hoping this one would go 6 or 7. Oh well Olympics are in a month and a half so I got something other than baseball to watch this summer. Now just gotta find some streams so I can watch the France basketball games since American coverage only shows the US.
I'm not a huge fan of Brian Windbag and that clip is kinda hard to watch; I actually thought it was some AI bullshit until towards the end. Since when does that fucker unload on superstars; does he think he's Stephen A. Smith now? Luka didn't shoot well, but it's "his fault" they lost because his 27/6/6 was too whiny? GTFO.

Luka can be whiny at times, but I thought he was okay last night. Although they didn't have enough to overturn his 6th foul, it was a bang bang play that could go either way. Luka arguably had the spot, and Jaylen crossed left into his body. (If they had called a charge, I don't think they overturn that.) I'm not sure what Luka is supposed to do there. We know he's not the most agile guy and he's staring down Jaylen Brown in transition. He's not gonna just successfully D him up, so the other option is the James Harden defense and let Brown blow past you to the rim. With 5 fouls, concession is probably the right decision but you give up a bucket.

I don't think the refs were terribad but they overturned the possession challenge when Jrue clearly hacked Luka on the arm. That's the rulebook, but it's tough.
The offensive foul on PJ Washington's screen didn't seem right to me.

Props to Brown for clutch play; he's -350 to win MVP. Not bad for a guy some thought would be traded if the Celtics choked again in these playoffs.

Maybe they decided that was the time to makeup for the non-call that should have happened on Doncic for absolutely shoving Pritchard to the ground to get himself an open shot.

Either way, it looked like a blocking foul on those last two.

Got home and just thought to check the score. 3rd largest blowout in an NBA finals game by the Mavs. Where the fuck was this team the last three games? Too little too late, but nice record.

Scott Foster'd. Never mind the additional TV revenue... Imagine all those Celtics fans who bet on the sweep. Vegas must have cleaned up.

I'd never root for the Celtics, but congrats to their players for getting the job done. Good group of guys and actually easy to root for if not for their jersey. 😛

He's a phenomenal scorer, but I don't want to hear anymore about Kyrie Irving being a superstar.

We'll I guess @SteveGrabowski keeps the money he didn't wager.
Would've been a good spot to hedge, going into the NBA Finals. Let's assume Steve bet $100 getting 17-1 that the Mavs would win the chip (before the playoffs started).

Celtics odds before Finals game 1 was -250 IIRC. So he could have bet $1250 to win $500.

If Mavs pull off the upset, he nets $1700 - $1250 = $450.
If Celtics win, he nets $500 - $100 = $400.

Not as awesome as a 17-1 payout, but it would have been a guaranteed quadrupling of the initial bet.

LOL why are the Celtics starting 5 still on the court with 2:15 to play???

That was probably the worst finals I can remember in a long time.
Depends on who you were rooting for. I know most fans of any other team were probably bored out of their minds watching these games, but I was very happy with how the team performed. If they can sign Derrick White, there is a good chance we could repeat.

I just mean as a neutral fan barely any of the games were even competitive. Having a game every 3 days for the most part, after a week off of crappy conference finals, just made the entire playoffs lose it's steam.

And the Celtics are just so boring to watch. They were clearly the better team with all of their talent and how they move the ball around, but just watching them dish the ball to the 3 point line gets old quickly and is just not a very entertaining brand of basketball to spectate. It's almost like watching a varsity team just roll over the freshman team. The games weren't even really competitive for the most part.

No matter who wins though, it's always fun to watch the celebration and to see those guys see all that hard work pay off. I was basically smiling the whole time watching the celebration afterwards even though I wanted the Celtics to lose. I can't hate on how hard those guys work to get there and it's just super awesome to see the end result.

Wow Nova Knicks have traded five first round picks for the Nets Mikal Bridges.

Oh man I just can't take my eyes off seeing the Clippers franchise crash and burn. Kawhi has been there five years and hasn't been healthy for the playoffs in any of them except 2020, and to sign him they let the Thunder pull a Herschel Walker trade on them since Leonard wanted PG13. To land Paul George the Clippers gave up
  • Shai Gilgous-Alexander (will likely be either 2nd or 3rd in MVP voting, probably 2nd)
  • Jalen Williams (the good one, the one who will be an allstar many times over)
  • Clippers 2024 first round pick
  • Miami's 2025 first round pick (lottery protected in 2025; unprotected in 2026 if it doesn't convey in 2025)
  • An unprotected 2025 first round pick swap with the Clippers
  • Clippers 2026 first round pick (unprotected)
Even with three of the picks and the 2025 swap yet to convey this is already Tractor Traylor for Dirk level bad.
Clips lowball Paul George, and he's out. Not that I necessarily blame their thinking (they wanted his contract to match Kawhi's 3 years), but then they pay Harden $70M over two. 🤣

Obviously they care about the "second apron," but it's still baffling considering the new arena and Steve Ballmer is the one guy who can afford all that luxury tax and then some.

Knicks superstar Jalen Brunson flexes with the Tom Brady move, leaving $37M/3 years guaranteed on the table vs. waiting a year. (Ignore the headline $113M figure, which includes years 4 and 5).

Earlier LBJ had bragged about leaving $2.6M on the table at age 40 after punking the Lakers to not only draft his son, but to overpay the #55 draft pick. 🙄 GM LeBron strikes again. 😛

Knicks already have Brunson on a bargain contract, can't believe he took shorts here just so MSG wouldn't have to pay as much luxury tax.

As you already know, it's not about moar luxury tax. But avoiding the 2nd apron, which will kneecap your team's ability to complete a championship-level roster (short of incredible luck, e.g. Dubs getting Steph's MVP seasons for dirt cheap, then getting KD when the cap spiked in 2016). I love Brunson's move, because nobody else will do this too. He's still getting generational wealth over the next 5 seasons even if he suffers catastrophic injury (so waiting 1 year isn't risk-free). And if he's still a star in 2028, he can extend for insane money (estimates are 4 years, > $300M). The new TV money starting in 2025 is going to substantially alter NBA economics.

LOL USAB blamed the Clippers, and the Clips blamed USAB for load managing Kawhi this summer. 🤣

Meh the second apron will be nearly $208 million for 2025-26 season and they'll be nowhere close to that when Randle opts out. Hell they wouldn't even cross it with Randle not exercising his team option and instead staying and Brunson taking a 30% of salary cap max contract (the max he could sign for 7 years in). Brunson is a fool taking a paycut for the sake of a bunch of rich f***s who own the team. I loved it when LeBron told the Heat to go f*** themselves in the summer of 2014 after they amnestied Mike Miller just to put more money in Mickey Arison's pocket after LeBron specifically took a paycut in 2010 so they'd have money to sign Miller. That's the way players should do it. Knicks don't have anyone due or able to sign any time soon the 35% of salary cap max contracts that crippled the Suns and Warriors. Only way that would have made sense for Brunson to take that pay cut would be if they matched OKC's offer for Hartenstein, which they didn't so his paycut buys him nothing roster wise.

Fair enough, but I give him credit for wanting to win and not wanting to take every last dollar available. Let's also not forget that he still signed a max extension, just one that's less lucrative than if he waits a year. But what happened when Isaiah Thomas or Dennis Schroder tried to maximize their next contract? Brunson locks in his $156M now, and doesn't have any financial risk from injury in the 2024-2025 season. He's back at the trough in 2028, barring a major decline or injury. And if he wants to be greedy next time, he's gonna love where the salary cap sits at. Just imagine Wemby's first or second extension LOL.

Don't the Knicks want to extend Randle? (Just not for the max salary slot.) Once you start stacking large salaries together, then 2 years down the road the second apron is within view. They just paid OG Anunoby, and we already know they're offering Mikal Bridges a max extension next summer.

You might say Brunson is a fool, but he's putting his money where his mouth is. I find that commendable compared to LBJ's faux "sacrifice" of $2.6M after he bamboozled the team into overpaying Bronny. My past posting history shows I like LeBron, but offseason GM LeBron is ridiculous.

Finally, he's not taking a pay cut. His raise beginning in 2025 just isn't quite as large as it could be. At $39M annual average before taxes, he'll probably still be able to feed his children. 🙂 I'm not a Knicks fan, but Brunson is a cool guy to root for.

Max extensions are huge discounts when a max level player is underpaid already like Brunson is. It's why the Spurs decided screw it we'll tank for Wemby because Dejounte Murray was making too little (about $15 million at the time) for the Spurs max extension offer before he could hit free agency to even be competitive with the max salary he could have signed in free agency and they were scared of losing him for nothing. If Bridges takes a max extension he'll be giving the Knicks another huge discount since he's only making $23 million this year and $24 million next. Even if he signed for his FA max of 30% of the cap that's not the kind of cap killing contracts Durant and Beal are. They're going to let Randle walk, some idiot is going to throw $45 million a year at him next summer.

Can't even compare Brunson to Thomas. It was well-known Ainge did not want Thomas back and wasn't going to pay him. And comparing Schroeder to Brunson? Brunson could tear his ACL this year and still get max money offers in free agency next summer.
