If Rubio will be such a bust why has the national media focused so heavily on how Kahn should trade him elsewhere and that Rubio doesn't want to play in Minnesota? Odd that so many teams covet him if he's so terrible.

He's a 21 year old kid with an uncanny knack for finding open teammates. He's got a good head on his shoulders. He'll be fine.

He's been far from impressive over seas over recent seasons. And as mentioned already he can't shoot. I swear half the people I play with at the local gym have better shooting form than this kid.

I don't see the hype for Rubio anymore.

Other than backups for bigs, the Nba has little to no use for white euro players who can't shoot.

Considering that shooting is something that Rubio has focused on improving the past few years (of his young career), but hasn't been able to, his potential for adding this to his game is bleak imo.

He's a very skilled point guard and on-ball defender, and since the wolves suck so much, he will make them better, but the wolves won't be able to win the big games when it counts.

It seems like the NBA would do better with about 40% fewer games per year, it would make them more important individually, and they could perhaps even charge more per game. I feel the same way about baseball too. When you have 100 games a year, it's really hard to care until the last few weeks of the season and the playoffs if your team has a shot.

Then again, I'm not a huge NBA fan, and I almost hate baseball.

Just don't want t-wolves fans to get their hopes up on him and be disappointed. :p

Outside of Kevin Love, we have little else to get our hopes up about.

Rubio will be decent. He'll struggle this year, I'm sure, but he's got a lot of raw talent and is working on his shot. I'm excited to see what he can do.

uuhhhh, derrick williams? wesley johnson? beasley(it irks me to say this but he balled out last season) you have a lot of young talent that needs to be traded for a defensive minded center to anchor the paint. Bringing in adelman is the first step, i see big strides for the twolves in the next 2-4 seasons

Can't wait for the Mavs opener. They will be hosting the Heat at the AAC. It's going to be epic. Must buy tickets!

I don't think the Mavs are going to keep Chandler around. That is going to remove a major defensive & rebounding threat in the post game. And Kidd & Dirk are another year older. Kidd in particular is a major question mark. Did he ever confirm he was coming back or will he retire on top? Barea is a free agent as well, although I think his marketability is much lower than Chandlers.

Pretty sure Kidd is going to play another year at least, maybe 2.

Dirk is dirk, he's a machine, a german one. He will still be good 5 years from now.

No idea about Chandler and the rest of the free agents.

I just want to watch some bball.

Kidd's getting closer to 40, but he's pretty amazing. No longer a strong defender, he still guarded Kobe for stretches in the playoffs.

ESPN.com reported that Chandler expects to be elsewhere because he doesn't think the Mavs will pay him market rate. The article noted that the Mavs would prefer to keep a lot of cap room for next offseason when some premier free agents might be available to anchor the team during Dirk's career downslope. So it sounds like Chandler is trying to bid up the competition with little expectation the Mavs want to throw a huge offer his way.

I don't really care about basketball either way. But I'm happy for the people who worked at the stadiums and who relied on that money to support their families.

This is ridiculous that this is even a discussion. Feeling I get is that the mavs are looking ahead to the next offseason free agent class that will include Deron Williams, Chris Paul, Dwight Howard and want to lowball Chandler and still have enough cap room for next year. I mean it's probably best for the teams long term future since they need a legit superstar for the future. Dirk is getting old.

I say resign Chandler. He brought toughness and heart to the Mavs. There is no guarantee that any of those guys want to sign in Dallas next year. Mavs have a championship to defend this year. If it backfires then oh well you went with the guys that won you a ring. If they can't get it done then you live with it. So fucking stupid. Let's break up a championship team to retool next year.

It's a catch-22. Clearly Chandler helped push them over the top, call him the X-Factor if you will. Whether you give him a big money deal for 5 years is still debatable though, even considering his worth to the Mavs. I think the new CBA makes it impossible to extend Chandler and sign a max FA next summer unless Chandler is leaving a LOT of money on the table. At 29, he'd be somewhat stupid to do so.

I think it's logical for Dallas to want to make a run at the big name guys in a year. Esp. since Kidd is near retirement, there are 2 elite PGs out there, and Dwight Howard is a perennial MVP candidate. Ignoring the new luxury tax rules that hurt the free spenders, who wouldn't want to work for a Mark Cuban? The ESPN.com article mentioned how the Mavs are in a tough spot; let's say they want to keep cap room for 2012. But if they let Chandler walk and the team muddles to a low playoff seed/quick exit, will one of the marquee free agents even want to come aboard?

I won't disagree with you that changing a winning formula is risky, but the Mavs have to balance this season vs the 4 after it. All in the context of the new CBA that hurts the biggest spenders.

Battier was a good deal. He fits in perfectly with the Heat.

Lakers gave up way too much for Paul given that Paul is older and has a bad knee. Obviously, no way they get Howard now. I guess it's a win now mentality. Howard is someone who can be a cornerstone after Kobe is gone. Paul is a short-term solution since Lakers won't have any bigs after Bynum goes out after 20 games with a bad knee.

They gave up Odom and Gasol. Both decent players but have definitely already played their best years. Chris Paul is the best point guard in the NBA and 26 years old. This was a steal for the lakers.

The kicker in all this is the NBA owns the Hornets and traded Paul to the lakers. What a joke of a league.

Lakers did get a good deal. We'll see how the chemistry and injuries play out. No way Bynum's knee can last through this season unless he's smart and does stupid things to get suspended for 20-30 games regularly. Not sure what the Lakers are going to do about size now. I haven't seen Okafor play so not sure how solid he is.

It is Otis Smith, though. So who knows what'll happen?

Gonna bump this thread and say Rubio has proved me wrong this season so far. The kid has been nothing but impressive, especially against my Bulls tonight. I've got league pass and have been watching twolves games and I like what I've seen from him.
