I haven't played 2K3 (PS2) yet, so I'm not going to compare. However, I picked up Live 2003 today because last year I prefered playing it with my buddies since it's more arcade. Also, the new freestyle control looked pretty darn interesting. I like 2K3, but as a party game, it's was typically slower and more involved. Most people can pick up Live for the first time and hang around, whereas 2K3 gives a bigger advantage to whoever has played it more...not a bad thing at all.
After getting home, I immediately hopped online to learn how to play. The first game ran seemlessly. No noticable lag at all. It was really fun playing against someone online. The game came down to the last minute or two. The next 2/3 games were all running smooth as could be. One game had some serious lag, but the other dude didn't quit, so I kept playing. He must have been dialup since the other games ran so well.
Anyway, it's typical Live basketball and the new controls are a bit interesting. Hadn't really figured them out totally, but it's cool to mess around with it. The free throws seem to be harder this year, but I also guess that any lag would probably show up here. Maybe that's why I wasn't shooting FT all that well (at least I'll blame it on that for now).
All in all, I'm happy with the game. Playing online is great and works very well. Now, my buds and I can play late at night without having to run to their apartment.
If you liked Live 2003, you'll most likely like this one. Just thought I'd pass this along.
