NBA: Is Dwight Howard the next Shaq?

watching the Orlando - Cleveland game and this Dwight Howard guy looks pretty big for a 19 yr old.

he's already a pretty good player, how good will he be in 2 or 3 yrs?

there's no way he'll be as dominating as shaq.

i don't remember but was shaq 300 lbs at 19? or did he grow into his weight?

remember this kid is the same age as shaq his sophomore year in college.

just googled it, Shaq was 7'1 - 303 when he was drafted

that's like 60 lbs of mass he's got to catch up on!

you are right, shaq was HUGE.

😉 howard looks pretty good tho.

i guess Hakeem was the better comparison.

Dwight looks like a poor man's Amare when i see him. pure strength and athleticism.

Amare worked hard on his game and developed a serviceable jumper and a deadly spin move. not to mention he runs the pick and roll w/ Nash to perfection. Dwight won't be even close to Amare or Shaq unless he refines his offensive game. but the physical gifts are there. he's a man-child.

but, i think Dwight's a better rebounder than Amare.

probably because Dwight spends his time in the paint, while Amare is the focal point of the offense, running the two-man game w/ Nash up top.

Maybe the next Ewing or Zo, but Shaq?

he's already 240lbs at 19 and looks like he will get bigger around. not likely to grow in height.

mb a Hakeem.

very athletic.

Hakeem reminded me of a player that would have been awesome regardless of height. he was so agile for a seven footer. i seem to remember he was a pretty good soccer player, too.

offensively, if Howard can develop HALF the moves of Hakeem, he'll be a star 🙂

it helps that amare has some real talent around him. a real PG to feed him the ball, a very good rebounding sf in Marion.

dwight has Francis to feed him the ball. francis is just a slightly more team oriented version of Stephon marbury. and by slight i mean very slight.

I wasn't aware that a distinction could be made with two such similar petulant ball hogs.

(<-- Knicks fan)

I haven't seen DH play so I can't say but from I recall his build is nothing like Shaq.

Kwame is junk man... He was drafted number 1, like Howard, but has never lived up to "full potential" whatever that means. Sometimes you draft a Steve Nash, sometimes you draft a Bo Kimble. Sometimes you draft Shawn Respert at #8, other times you draft Kobe Bryant at #13... It's like the stock market man...

hehehe

you are probably right. it's hard to make the distinction between those two.

francis like marbury will probably never be a winner.
