edit: intro below...

Larry Hughes has come to terms with the Cleveland Cavaliers on a five-year deal, his agent, Jeff Wechsler, told ESPN Insider Chad Ford.

"Larry intends to sign a contract with the Cavs when the moritorium ends," Wechsler said.

Wechsler wouldn't comment on the actual numbers of the deal, but it's believed to be a five-year deal between $65 million and $70 million.

WTH are the Cavs thinking? They need a 2 guard who can actually shoot and defend, not some loser who chucks up bad shots and plays gambling defense to jack up his steals total. Too bad they couldn't get Ray-Ray or Redd, but seriously, this is an awful signing.

i agree, and everyone can see Hughes was their 3rd choice behind redd/allen. however, Hughes is only 26 yrs old, plays some pretty good defense and if they resign Big Z, pretty solid squad in the Eastern Conference.

Now if only my Nets can get Shareef.

Plays good defense? Did you ever actually watch him in a game? He gambles on almost every play... He gave up 30+ more times than I can remember. Sure, he gets a ton of steals, but that is because he is always sitting on passing lanes as opposed to guarding his guy.

Shareef would be great for the Nets as a second option, especially in the PF-weak east.

i tend to agree with Hughes' steals per game number being deceiving. he gambles a lot and gets about 3 steals per game, but in the long run, he's going to give up more points by playing like that.

however, it's going to be interesting to see Hughes play with Lebron. if they can find some cohesion, maybe Lebron might be willing to stay in Cleveland. after the Iverson/Hughes experiment failed, i didn't think much of Hughes. however, watching him successfully play with Arenas, i'm a little more optimistic that Lebron/Hughes might be a formidable combo.

Too bad. I was hoping that there was some way Redd would have wound up playing the 2 in Cleveland.

i dont care who the cavs get... as long as the can be a team that can actually compete. Ohio is a pro sports joke nowadays

Actually, it doesn't matter, 'cause my Knicks are goin' all the way this year! Channing Frye + Jamal Crawford + Q. Richardson = complete ownage! 🙂 hahaha

awww larry gonna be all alone once lebron signs with the Knicks 😉

confirmed: knicks fans are dillusional...they always think people are going to sign with them just because they are in NY.

newsflash: the knicks suck.

um...Knicks suck...period...

This is a good signing for the Cavs

Yes, Hughes played the passing lanes a lot, but the Wizards and coach Jordan emphasized trapping, gambling defense since their frontcourt defenders were so poor. Hughes is an excellent athlete, a much better on-the-ball defender than Redd or Allen, and he handles the ball better than either of those 2...yes, I agree that both of them are much better shooters..but now the Cavs will have to address their outside shooting needs with a PG who can shoot from the outside...don't forget, they still have 16M to spend...and they are going to sign the Lithuaninan PG, whose name I'm not even going to try and spell, who will be a nice shooter off the bench...perhaps a guy like Damon Jones or Damon Stoudamire might be a good fit with Eric Snow at the point for the Cavs...one to shoot, another to play better D...

I say it's a good signing, Hughes is a solid, solid player.

washingston major league lowballed him with an offer for $8 mil per. if i had a choice between washington (which isn't a bad team with arenas and jamison) or the cavs (be lebron's sidekick), i'd blot to cleveland in a heartbeat.
