NEW YORK (AP) - A record 17 home-opener sellouts brought NBA attendance to 95 percent capacity for the first week of the season.

The league said Thursday that the record eclipsed the previous home opener sellout mark of 15 established during the 1997-98 season.

During the first 10 days of the season, there were eight overtime games, which also tied a record for that span, set in 1985-86.

looks like the NBA is thriving right now, post MJ/Magic/Bird.

it should be noted the NHL lockout probably has a lot to do with record NBA sellouts...

I wonder how the TV ratings will do! I try to watch it but it is just a shell of the game they played back in the Bird/Magic era.

Mark Cuban (Mavs owner) was complaining about the NBA having opening night the same night as the election. He got fined for it.

Probably because the NBA is full of crap.

I was at the Hawks home opener and they said over the PA system that it was a sellout. That place wasn't even 2/3rd's full.

Nobody watches the NBA anymore....of all my friends I can only think of two people that I know who watch games on a regular basis......College basketball is so much better IMHO......then again I've gotten to where I like college football better than NFL so.....I guess I've turned into a college sports freak.

5'5" Earl Boykins dropping 30 points on the Pistons the other night was a fun thing to watch. A shame I only get tbs & not tnt.

ugh. that was painful for me to watch.

the pistons played atrocious defense that game. without larry brown and ben wallace, the pistons were play lackidaisical defense.

but, i root for boykins, since he went to eastern michigan univ. i remember watching him practice at the university's rec center 🙂

Sonics = the dark horse of year.
Owned Two western contender teams Kings and Spurs by blowing them out by 30 and 20, then blew out Denver, and beat the red hot 4-1 Raptors.

The Jazz look good as dark horse as well. Andrei Kirilenko is a BEAST. Also has the best nickname in the NBA (AK 47)

No one cares about the NHL.

NBA is always fun to watch. This year with all the trades and more balanced teams, I think it'll be even more exciting.

Happens a lot in Atlanta, a lot of tickets are given to corporate types who never show up for games. Like certain Braves playoffs games, the tickets might be all sold out but the stadium is only at 2/3 or 3/4 capacity.
