NBA 3 pointer discussion .. it's getting out of hand

I've read about some solutions. Wider court to remove the shorter corner 3. Bring the 3 point line in so offense are less spread. Move the line out more to make it a lower percentage shot. Change it to a 2.5 pt shot. Illlegal offense where only 2 players can be outside the arc ... but that seems to have problems.

Why not just make it like the NFL and who is an eligible receiver? The NBA could literally have each team designate three players per team that are eligible 3 point shooters. Anyone can shoot from beyond the arc but only those players designated get 3 points. They could have special jerseys (great way to make even more money through merchandizing) that allow defenses to easily recognize them. Over-rides could be a team down by more than 10 points have all beyond the arc shots count as 3. Or perhaps the last 2 minutes of each half, all beyond the arc shots count as 3. Seems like an easy fix. it would remove the need for teams to require that centers be able to shoot long range and help create a more balanced game.

they should make players not be over 6'. I find it hard to get excited when the player slam dunks when he can touch the rim by just lifting his arm without jumping.

If refs would actually call offensive foul against shooters who lean into defender, then perimeter defenders can begin guarding three pointers.

I think they should just require a 2 handed chest pass and ban all other types. That will solve it.

I don't see the problem. Seeing the ball jammed into the hoop 50 or 60 times in a game is boring. Players developing and using outside shooting skills is not. I really like the direction that the NBA game is headed (and has been for a number of years). Less domination by low skilled bruisers, and an increasing influence of players from around the world who have actual basketball skills that include being able to make shots.

it would remove the need for teams to require that centers be able to shoot long range and help create a more balanced game.

What??? Centers aren't "required" to shoot long range, but when you have one that can, it's a nice addition to a team. And something of a marvel to US fans after watching decades of the kind of crap played by the likes of Shaq. It's so foreign to the game and it's being brought here (not surprisingly) almost exclusively by foreign players. The greater reliance on long range shooting is the very thing that's brought balance to the game.

This.

The current state of flopping in the game, particularly by jump shooters, is a disgrace.

Steph Curry screams, flails, and kicks his legs out like he was Falcon Punched every time he shoots and a defender is in the vicinity. Every time he does that should be a technical foul. Same goes for guys who yell out when they shoot a layup in traffic.

It's gotten so bad even pansies in recreational leagues do it. One opponent was 6'6"+ and would yell out and flail every time he shot in the paint. We finally started fouling him hard on purpose and throwing him into the wall just so we'd get our money's worth.

Any player who yells out, screams, contorts their body, or falls down in a way to deceive officials into calling a personal foul shall be assessed a technical foul. Two technical fouls in a game results in ejection. The replay booth may flag any such play that is in obvious violation for official review at the next stoppage in play.
