MANY TEAMS REMAIN! IF YOU WANT TO PLAY, CLAIM A TEAM TODAY!

UPDATED 11/17/09: Anyone interested in a league?

UPDATED 10/08/09: I received the game tonight and played a game using the Lakers against the Magic. In the end, I lost by 3. Here are a few things I noticed:

1. Graphics -- graphics are superb, as expected.
2. Commentary -- exceptional, as you could tell from the demo.
3. Game play -- game play is pretty interesting. I don't know if it is just me or if this is a recent trend in sports games, but it seems players in today's sports games just aren't as responsive as in past games. When playing D, your player seems to really be affected by inertia and it is hard to turn on a dime. I guess that is good or bad, depending on your style of play. Offensively, I seemed to really struggle with the outside shot unless I used Artest. It seems like I could hit just about everything with him.
4. Glitches -- I did notice an annoying glitch in the game and it happened twice. It was like a sudden build up of lag and all of a sudden, the computer player teleported a few feet ahead of where he should be. Hopefully it can be patched.

The game supports online leagues in a season format or a tournament format. You can select the number of teams in the league and the number of games. I am not sure if you can play vs. CPU in the leagues or if every team must be player controlled.

UPDATED 10/07/09: The game was officially released yesterday and I am waiting for my copy to arrive. Any feedback so far? We're hoping to get at least 10 players to join the league. RyanPaulSchaffer gave me the go ahead to release the Lakers for now, so they're available!

UPDATED 9/25/09: Come on folks, the release of NBA 2K10 is just around the corner and a few of us have expressed an interest in creating an online association. While we won't know all the details until the game is released, now is your chance to claim a team and sign up for the league. Please read this post for more instructions. As more details become available, I will update this post. Think of this as "pre-ordering" your team; if you decide not to get 2K10 or decide not to be in the league, you can release your team and we'll let someone else play it.

UPDATED 9/24/09: I'll keep this post updated with who claims what teams in the event that we do start a league. To claim a team, just post in this thread. Teams are assigned on a first come, first serve basis. If you claim a team and then decide you want another team, make another post and I will move you to the new team, assuming it is open.

Also, I am also not sure how the leagues might work in NBA 2K10, so if anyone does, correct me or add info as you see fit.

Oh, and by the way, before I forget -- we're discussing an Xbox 360 league, not a PS3 league.

If we do, I got the Lakers!

I'd love to play in an NBA 2K10 league but honestly, I don't think my 360 will be back from RROD land by the time it comes out. :(

I am not sure who I would take at this point. Do I take my hometown Pacers or someone else? I was the Blazers in 08.

I'd see your Lakers and raise you the Spurs. I'm definitely getting this game when it comes out. I always get the NBA 2k games when they come out. Still the best bb game out there unless Live does something big this year.

Well I'd play if I got it, but only if I got the Lakers. I'm an overly diehard Laker fan, I couldn't see myself playing with any other team. So I guess I'm not playing since RyanPaulShaffer has dibs. :p I'm not sure I can swing the cash for it right now anyway, especially since the season is about to start and I need the money for League Pass.

I started playing NBA 2K8 again recently, since I only played 1 season of association when I got it. It is a great game, but let me tell you, I SUCK. Maybe I should play a few more seasons of that before I get 2K10 and join a league with you ringers.

I'm not a terribly big NBA fan, but I love basketball games. Too bad there won't be more College Hoops games, though I suppose I could see what my options are for a CH 2K8 league since lots of people still play it. I guess I should start reviewing NBA teams and pick one, just in case. :D

i've gotten 2k past 3 years, but kind've want break from 2k series as i didn't enjoy 2k9 as much as 2k7/2k8. after playing live demo i'm thinking about switching this year. really like the passing/offensive controls, real nba sets, defense is more enjoyable for me with more contact animations, and with dynamic season it's looking real good.

I'd definitely pick up Live if it's better. I've always bought NHL 2k series except this year cus NHL 09 is that much better than NHL 2k9. I agree that this year NBA wasn't as awesome as last years but it was still better than 09. I haven't tried the Demo for 10 yet. I'll download it today.

NHL 09 -- that's a great game that I need to play more. I bought it on sale in January or February and only have played like 20 games. That would definitely be a cool game to have an online league in, though I am sure most fans have moved to NHL 10 by now.

I'll download the Live 10 demo when I get a few minutes and try it out. I was a Live guy from 2003-2006 on my PC and PSP and then switched to 2K for 2007 and 2008 on my Xbox. I still think 2K8 is one of the most amazing sports games ever created; I didn't play 2K9 at all so I am not sure how that stacks up.

I'm really more of a college basketball fan, but I don't think EA's latest college basketball game has even matched College Hoops 2K6, let alone 2K7 or 2K8.

I love NHL 10 it feels like real hockey

That might be, but I haven't played 09 enough just yet to justify upgrading.

Well, my guess is that the league wouldn't start for a couple of weeks after the release of the game, so you would have time to get it back. If we go through with it and elect a commissioner, we should probably follow the model jbourne used in the AT Madden league -- put up some polls for common settings (quarter lengths, difficulty level, etc) and use those to establish the game rules.

Off topic, but... I have 2k9, and with custom rosters that can be downloaded... is it worth dropping ~50 on 2k10? I don't see a whole lotta game changes other than a few adjustments here and there that are nice, but dont know if it's worth it.

That's something you'll have to figure it out. You won't ever be able to play your friends on live if you don't have the latest game and most of the time the updates are small but I'm a sports guy so I always get the latest version.

QFT. Even though I love NBA 2K8, I'd like to be in an association with other players and the only way that will likely happen is if I go with NBA 2K10.

As zerocool says, that is something you will have to judge for yourself. As he correctly points out, if you are a big fan of playing others and/or being in an association with others, you are probably going to have to upgrade to NBA 2K10 eventually. I currently have NBA 2K8 and while I really enjoy it, will likely upgrade if there is enough interest in making an Anandtech NBA 2K10 league.

Speaking of which, do you want to claim a team? :D

my main issues w/ 2k9 was lack of contact in paint (hard to defend alot of layup animations), tons of unnecessary animations dribbling around making it hard to get to specific points on floor, AI teammates not rotating on D, and play-calling where your teammates just slowly walk to their spots.

only played a little combine and read impressions, but i liked the cutting down on alot of the unnecessary animations so more control. turbo can't be spammed anymore. from reading, seems like defensive rotations greatly improved, more spread out ratings, and using 82games data hopefully improve player tendencies.

even tho i think 2k10 is essentially 2k9.5, 2k10 looks to be strong just b/c 2k9 was few nagging issues away for me from being really good.

Not sure this deal was hot enough to put in Hot Deals, but GoGamer has NBA 2K10 for preorder for $49.90.

The NBA 2K10 demo was released last week. Anyone try it out? I played it a little this morning and really liked it.

The only thing I don't like is that you can't change the camera in the demo to the old 2k style that I like. Me and my friends always play using the old 2k camera style that's behind and above the players instead of to the side like it is in the demo and standard in the NBA games. Kind of hard for me to play like that but I do like it. Graphics are improved and the computer seems to move around a lot on it's own than it did last year which is good. It seems a little more difficult to do spin moves/crossovers/and such and maybe they tweaked that a little and I'll have to learn how to do that when it comes out. Oh and the crowd seems much more realistic with the way they sound.

If you do a fantasy draft I'm in. Otherwise playing with stock teams just doesn't make any sense at all.

It really will depend on what options are available for league play. I've heard that there may not be a full association option online, so we'll have to see what options are there and then vote on what the league will look like.
