NB HS Question

I'm about to replace my IC7-G's NB HS with the Zalman NB32J, so I removed the heatsink and promptly put it back on so that I could come here and ask about it. The 'chip' of the north bridge appears to be much smaller than I thought, with many smaller tiny bits sticking up around. The stock cooler has some kind of tiny shim on it; do I need to transfer this to the NB32J? Should I be worried about either frying the small bits due to contact with the heatsink or squishing them while I apply the new heatsink?

While I don't know for sure, I imagine it is a package similar to the CPU, where the NB chip die is raised above the "tiny bits"....like this:

Take the time to apply heatsink goop to only the little chip part of it, and you aught to be OK (also remove any that is there now). I like using packing tape (the slick kind, a square folded in half to form a flexible flat thing to spread it out) for the compound, myself.
Also, since I haven't seen the NB of such mobos, pics? :)
