NB Cooler On The Fritz - FIXED!!!

So yeah....I got this Cooler Master Blue Ice 2 NB cooler back in January and now the fan is failing. When it should be running at 4500RPM, it now starts to dip to 2280RPM, and sometimes to 863 RPM (also while causing an unbearable rattle in my case that vibrates the whole desk). This is causing my nForce4 Ultra chip to overheat and cause stability issues (including the keyboard not accepting number input and hanging in just about everything). This is a 20 dollar cooler and I'm not about to throw it away.

Why I have not RMA'd:
I've already tried contacting Cooler Master about RMA but they need a copy of a receipt except I bought this in China and never got a receipt. I can prove that I did buy it because I still have the installation instructions for it but obviously they need to see a proper proof of purchase.

Why I have not replaced the fan:
The screws holding it are very tight and none of my screw drivers are able to hold traction in such a small space.

My plan:
I will cut through the space that holds the 40mm fan and then throw in a Delta 60x10mm from a Thermaltake Volcano 10+ (4800RPM, loud but better than nothing). I will probably use zip ties or bent paper clips to make the fan stay in place. I will probably also grab a Zalman Fan Mate 2 to quiet down that fan and make it not spin as quickly (3500 RPM should be good enough I would think). If my modding does go wrong, then I will need to make a trip to Fry's and grab an Iceberq 4 Pro or something. I have a Tt Crystal Orb but I don't know if it will fit.

Got any ideas? Please share. Thanks.

Howard, this thing's a pretty big cooler and if this thing overheats, I doubt the other passive coolers will handle it (maybe the HR-05 but that costs money).

nForce 4 chip, right? You can use a passive Zalman on it.

EDIT: You mean to say your CM cooler couldn't handle it? What was the load temp?

Mine overheats when I run it passively (system hangs a lot). When it's spinning at full speed, this thing works fine. Recently the fan has been slowing down spontaneously (used to do it only at boot up and then goes away but now it does it while my system is running).

It's not designed for passive operation. You've noticed how dense the fins are packed, right?

Haha, thanks for suggestions but I went Ninja style on this one (omg it's a baby Ninja! -- in terms of fan mounting that is...everywhere else it looks like a Freezer 64 Pro but without two heatpipes):

22 CFM fan (Delta 60mm, 4800RPM from Thermaltake Volcano 10+ Socket A cooler) blowing into a cooler that was originally cooled by a 4.5CFM, 4500RPM 40mm. I doubt even the Qingting ChipForce will beat this mofo.

Well, allelectronics.com has a 60x38 Delta that blows 70cfm at 15k rpm if you want/need more. :p

Nice set-up BTW.
