So yeah....I got this Cooler Master Blue Ice 2 NB cooler back in January and now the fan is failing. When it should be running at 4500RPM, it now starts to dip to 2280RPM, and sometimes to 863 RPM (also while causing an unbearable rattle in my case that vibrates the whole desk). This is causing my nForce4 Ultra chip to overheat and cause stability issues (including the keyboard not accepting number input and hanging in just about everything). This is a 20 dollar cooler and I'm not about to throw it away.
Why I have not RMA'd:
I've already tried contacting Cooler Master about RMA but they need a copy of a receipt except I bought this in China and never got a receipt. I can prove that I did buy it because I still have the installation instructions for it but obviously they need to see a proper proof of purchase.
Why I have not replaced the fan:
The screws holding it are very tight and none of my screw drivers are able to hold traction in such a small space.
My plan:
I will cut through the space that holds the 40mm fan and then throw in a Delta 60x10mm from a Thermaltake Volcano 10+ (4800RPM, loud but better than nothing). I will probably use zip ties or bent paper clips to make the fan stay in place. I will probably also grab a Zalman Fan Mate 2 to quiet down that fan and make it not spin as quickly (3500 RPM should be good enough I would think). If my modding does go wrong, then I will need to make a trip to Fry's and grab an Iceberq 4 Pro or something. I have a Tt Crystal Orb but I don't know if it will fit.
Got any ideas? Please share. Thanks.
