A phased approach is being considered under which officers -- who already have separate living quarters -- would be the first to go co-ed, followed by crews, with the women bunking together, the official said. Crew space would have to be modified prior to that happening, the official added.

The submarines expected to carry women initially would be the larger ones -- nuclear-power, missile-carrying submarines known as SSBN and SSGN, the official said.


I wonder why they didnt allow it b4? sure, it's tight quarters, but there are women on small navy surface ships.

as for limited privacy and the cost of reconfiguring the vessels, they could have just designed new subs to accomodate woman, and put them in the new subs?

heck, i wonder why they didnt do this waaaaay back??
 
early submarining was hella gross, the smells and stuff of your fellow submariner was pretty bad.
its getting better but you could consider this a waste of money. war isnt fair.
 
They're only allowing single women at this time.









They haven't figured out how to get married women to go down.
 
plus women do get pregnant all the time in the navy.
evacuating a pregnant woman is relatively easy on a ship.
on a sub where location secrecy is the whole point...it becomes a big burden.

Redesigning a submarine - where space is already a precious commodity - specifically to accommodate separate living quarters? I'm pretty sure that you're still going to have more room on a small surface ship..and you probably won't be on one for the length of time that people are on submarines.

Then again, I've never been in the Navy so what do I know..but really? Design a new submarine for this purpose? You've got to be kidding.

Even the smallest surface ships are nothing compared to subs. Having spent some time on them, I can tell you that accommodating women just isn't worth the effort. There are times that you are literally squeezing by other people to get from point A to point B. I'm sure the women will love it when men are squeezing past their ta ta's every 10 feet.

Then you are gonna have to add separate showers and bunks, where there already isn't enough space.

Then theres the fact that women are just generally fucking crazy, and it's torture for the men to have to deal with that for months on end with nowhere to hide. The break room is like a 10x10 room.

The subs will now have to surface 6 days out of the month... just so the guys can get away from the bitching.

I'm pretty confident they'll get a nice briefing about what they are getting into. I doubt they'll use the term ta ta's but I think the point will be the same.
 
The women might get a briefing but the men still have to put up with it. Not worth it at all. Either that or make a sub with all women.

HAH. Women don't get along well at all. Especially in close quarters.

Besides, they wouldn't have room to stock all of the feminine products needed for the journey. They would have to sacrifice food storage.

Seriously. Do you want several many dozens of females manning a nuclear wessel during that time? Gotta remember, the ladies, they tend to "synchronize" when they herd together in packs for any length of time. Every 28 days they'll be threatening Belgium with the nukes if they don't get chocolate.
