This is the smaller version of the Navigon 7100 that everyone is raving about. It has free lifetime traffic monitoring, lane assist, and text to speech. If you have any coupons, you can make it even cheaper.

Raving? The reviews are mediocre to poor and for good reason.

I got a Navigon 7100 when it came out and tested it extensively against a Nuvi 660. I ended up giving the Navigon to my kid because it is just not "ready for prime time." The Navigon has some unacceptable problems with routing and a cumbersome interface. The lane assist is the same as Garmins with the addition of static still graphics that come up and that lots of users turn off. There are scores of other problems. There is a bug that keeps you from marking where you are as GPS coordinates or entering and navigating to coordinates. It is under powered. I got about one hour on battery vs three hours for Garmin's 6xx series.

Good luck with service. Questions are routed to Germany and come back with crazy nonsense replies. If your charger or mount breaks (my mount broke after a month) you cannot buy another one in the US. Navigon needs to beef up its US support and set up their devices up for the US market if it is going to compete.

In the end the routing is the most important feature of a GPS. Traffic service (and it isn't that good) does no good if the routing is already taking your out of your way. Lots of users are trying to hack the routing files to get acceptable results. That tells you something.

I would wait for a major software update on the Navigon's MN6.5 that comes with US units. In Europe they have moved to 6.5.1

You can get a Garmin 650 at Costco this week for $299.
