Naval Gunfire in Civ 5

Just got far enough in Civ 5 to have a more modern navy, frigates and such. Their effect against barbarians is quite a sight to see.

Hmm, a destroyer found a barb down south, I'll have to send down a couple of battleships and see whats up.

Early on in the game, caravels and frigates can make attempting to siege coastal cities quite painful if you're not prepared.

with Gods and Kings you would be running into Barbarian Destroyers and alike . They made the barbs respawn faster, upgrade quicker, and become royal pains really early. They also made it so barbs can spawn in sight and even right next to units, although that doesn't happen too often.

Doesn't bother me much. I dive into the honor tree relatively early for the "quick" boost to culture it gives as barbs impale themselves on my cities.
