Man hiding from police sprayed by a skunk
LONDONDERRY ? Crime may not pay, and according to police, it sometimes smells downright horrible.
Police said 40-year-old William Goguen took friend Karen Collins's black 2001 Ford Expedition from their home around 1 a.m. Friday morning without asking and despite having a suspended license. Officials said he later pulled into his neighbor's driveway after a night of drinking, where he backed over a large rock and got stuck after trying to back out, leaving the truck's back end "suspended in air."
Goguen had been out with friend James Day, who told police he had asked to be let out of the truck just moments before the accident.
Goguen allegedly left the damaged truck, returned Collins's keys to the kitchen counter and hid in the woods to avoid having to deal with police. When he returned to their home on 51 Old Derry Road, police said, he was glassy-eyed drunk and covered in pine needles.
He also reeked, according to officials.
"Goguen was sprayed by a skunk while out in the woods avoiding contact with the officers on scene," the report states.
Police later handcuffed Goguen, whose license was revoked, at which point he made personal comments about an officer's mother.
"Your mother is a hooker in Lawrence," he said.
Goguen pleaded guilty Friday morning to charges including disorderly conduct, unauthorized taking and driving with a suspended license. According to court documents, he was fined $360 and given three concurrent 90-day sentences, all of which were suspended for one year of good behavior.
He is also out on $1,000 cash bail for a bench warrant out of Salem District Court, according to court officials. He is expected in court on July 5 to answer charges of a second offense of driving with a suspended license in 2003.
