I've been having the hardest time sleeping at night lately and am feeling wired & scatterbrained during the day. This has been going on for about two weeks now and I really think its started to get to me. I'm not interested in a doctor visit so I can pop some pills at night, nor am I interested in some type of PM pill from Walgreens...

Any ideas for natural aids or tricks that might help me sleep through the night?

Try working out. I had been having trouble sleeping and I started working out. I find that the exertion makes it a lot easier to fall asleep when you are ready. Also, I have "trained" my body to sleep by reading a chapter of a book before bed. I find with those two things combined I never really have a problem falling asleep recently.

Also, it appears your name is a misrepresentation if you are not a doctor.

Also 5 HTP

For anxiety try Relora or Valerian Root.

EDIT: btw don't be swayed to buy the more is better rule when it comes to melatonin. I believe I've read that the body can't absorb more than .25g at a time. So, save your money on those 3g capsules.

1) Regiment your sleep schedule. Same time to bed and same time to rise on a regular basis.
2) Exercise regularly each day. It is best to finish six hours before bedtime.
3) Avoid naps; but check with your physician first (with some sleep disorders, naps are beneficial
4) Take a hot bath to raise your body temperature within two hours before bedtime.
5) Do not smoke after 7:00pm or stop smoking entirely.
6) Avoid caffeine in the evening and close to bedtime.
7) Decrease the use of alcoholic beverages as much as possible. Alcohol can fragment sleep over the second half of the sleep cycle.
8) Avoid eating a full meal or drinking three hours before bedtime.
9) Keep clock face turned away, and do not find out what time it is when you wake up at night.
10) Mattress and pillow should not be too soft or too firm.
11) Use bedroom only for sleep and sex.
12) Do not try too hard to sleep; instead, concentrate on the pleasant feeling of relaxation.

Shock should do the trick.
