Been playing for a few hours. This game's a ton of fun.
Granted, I've only played as marines so far, so I haven't checked out the aliens yet. The game feels very well-balanced either way. Matches on the public server I went to seemed pretty fair. It also helped that we had a really cool commander who knew what he was doing.
I usually try to stick in groups with at least one other teammate, for safety. Hearing aliens crawl through the vents and through the walls around you is pretty nerve-wracking and I like to have some backup. It can get fairly intense.
Generally, I'm a huge fan of FPS games that rely on teamwork and communication, so I'll be playing this for a long time to come. I'm also impressed with how nice and level-headed most of the community is. Teammates have been helpful to newbies, and there's been no flaming, and no raging. Just a lot of good communication.
Of course: Anecdotal evidence, YMMV, etc, etc... but my experience with this game is extremely positive so far.
Graphically, the game looks pretty damn good... particularly for an indie game. It's easy to see that the developers put a lot of time and effort into NS2. They never broke down and sold out to a big publisher either, in order to preserve the quality and integrity of their game. I take my hat off to them for that alone.
Fortunately this hasn't been the case for me yet.

I love the concept, but it seems to me that if you aren't playing with friends or in some kind of clan then you're going to get some pretty crappy team and commanders.
