Natural Gas heating prices

Why you ask?
Deregulation of the ELECTRIC industry

"Fuel switching ? changing from coal-based generation to natural gas-based generation ? is a tremendous threat to the economy of not just Ohio, but to the Nation as well. There are currently over 5,000 power plants in the United States that generate over 850,000 megawatt hours of electricity annually. In 2002, 19% of our electricity was generated by natural gas ? as opposed to 50% generated by coal [CHART 4]. Reliance on natural gas for even this much generation has put a tremendous strain on natural gas supplies and pushed prices on available gas to record high prices.

The President?s National Energy Policy Task Force projected that over 1,300 new power plants will need to be built to satisfy America?s energy needs over the next 20 years. Because of the emissions limits and regulatory uncertainty triggered by the Clean Air Act, the Department of Energy currently predicts that over 90% of these new plants will be powered by natural gas. Further, analysis by EIA and the EPA shows that a large percentage of coal-fired plants are likely to be replaced by natural gas-fired plants in the near future."

The deal is, electric companies are refusing to build anything other than natural gas burning electric Plants.

so as electric generation is becomming increasingly dependent on this Limited production resource, demand for Natural Gas goes threw the Roof, as does the price.

so the Natural gas companies Stick it to the consumers who will experience for the average home a $250 heating bill a month this winter.

And here is the best Part, the electric companies also experience the Cost increase for their needed natural gas. they pass that cost onto electric consumers.

The consumer Gets F@cked twice. Aint Deregulation Grand because nobody is mandating what type of plants are built for electric generation so the Electric companies take the Cleanest and cheapest route to keep their costs next to nothing.

but do to the nature of LP gas being a limited production resource, Demand will continue to increase as will the cost of your heating and electric bills.

Think that's bad? Colorado natural gas prices went up 72% last year, and our supplier claims to need another 91% on top of that- totalling 226% increase over 18 months ago...

Remember the California energy crisis extortion scheme, and how GWB just whistled Dixie in the background? Just a warmup- they're going national with it, now. Bend over, guys, Dubya's pals are gonna drive you home...

well the problem is the energy buisiness is doing what is good for profit and business on the short term and not making decision for Life-dependent utility services that are benificial to soceity as a whole. Government intervention is mandatory in this problem because the nature of the beast will make the problem worse and be unable to solve the problem.

East ohio gas and columbia gas go to the Ohio puco and ask for a rate hike and of course the puco approves it because I can bet that 99% own stock in those companies.

Natural gas production has plataeued over the last few years, despite adding thousands of new wells. This means that we are barely keeping up with decline. I think that's one of the reasons for a spike in NG. Demand has outpaced supply.
