native resolution is when you display a picture that uses all the pixels of a monitor,
if u have a 1280 x 1024 17 inch lcd native resolution is 1280 x 1024.

importance comes from the fact that an lcd cannot interpollate to lower resolutions without distortion, an old crt display can but an lcd no, so if you use on a lcd a resolution different from the maximum u loose quality on the picture.

Not horiible, I can play @1024x768 in my 17" TFT and hardly see a decrease in quality. Lower res is another thing though...

LCDs have a fixed amount of pixels. These pixels form an array of "dots" that give you that native resolution. Native refers to "what is there". You physically have 1280x1024 pixels on a normal 17" LCD. So, if you try running at a lower resolution, you have interpolation. something like 1.2 pixels have to simulate being 1 pixel. My numbers were made up btw.

So if you're native resolution is 1024 x 768. And you're running games at a higher resolution is anything actually changing? Or is it a placebo.

I have NEC FE770 CRT monitor 17" inch.
