So I am trying to get my new Core i7 build up and running but I am stumbling at the last hurdle with my GTS 250 + Acer AL2416W. Heres the problem: I am using 190.62 WHQL and no matter what I do, my monitors native resolution of 1920x1200 is not available in either the Nvidia Control panel or in Windows- the highest it can go is 1920x1080 (although thats under 'HDTV' not 'PC' the highest there is 1024x768) which is stretched and horrible on this display (Setting Nvidia scaling in the control panel doesn't work). I am using Windows 7, but I have used Vista and it's the same problem. I have used the 186.18 drivers and still no support for native resolution. It's pretty stupid as my 4870X2 always recognised my monitor and resolutions first go and I never had this problem, so it must be something to do with the Nvidia drivers.

I have tried installing my monitors INF file (that states the max res as 1920x1200) over the Generic PNP Monitor file windows has but that has not helped. 'Custom Resolution' in the Nvidia control panel does nothing for me, it just comes back saying test failed your monitor doesn't support that.

So onto Editing the nv_disp.inf file... I have found conflicting information across the net as for what to modify and where so any help here would be appreciated. This is driving me nuts and is very frustrating any help appreciated.

EDIT: setting a custom res in Rivatuner, I restart as it tells me to do and it's the same- nothing happened.

@ modifying Nv_disp

Under: [nv_commonDisplayModes_addreg] this is what I have:

HKR,, NV_Modes, %REG_MULTI_SZ%, "{*}S 720x480=1;720x576=8032;SHV 1280x720 1680x1050 1920x1080 2048x1536=1;1920x1440=1F;640x480 800x600 1024x768=1FFF;1920x1200=3F;1600x900=3FF;1600x1024 1600x1200=7F;1280x768 1280x800 1280x960 1280x1024 1360x768=7FF;1152x864=FFF;{191-19E,400-42F,5E0-6FF,846-A65}S 720x480x64=1;720x576x64=8032;SHV 1280x720x64 1680x1050x64 1920x1080x64 2048x1536x64=1;1920x1440x64=1F;640x480x64 800x600x64 1024x768x64=1FFF;1920x1200x64=3F;1600x900x64=3FF;1600x1024x64 1600x1200x64=7F;"

HKR,, NV_Modes, %REG_SZ_APPEND%, "1280x768x64 1280x800x64 1280x960x64 1280x1024x64 1360x768x64=7FF;1152x864x64=FFF;"

Where should I add the 1920x1200 resolution here?

EDIT: SOLVED! I went out and bought a VGA cable and now it correctly recognises my native resolution and all is well- phew!
