National "Do Not Call" list goes live July 1st

Those who call listed people could be fined up to $11,000 for each violation.

HELL YEAH!!! Now too bad they could never do something like that for spam 😀

They really gotta fix email..

I was thinking that if they have some sort of registry and just made a whole new email protocol that was handled with only one company and built it into all email clients, then they could get rid of spam since all email addresses would have to be registered. If any were being offensive (mass spams), then they could be dropped and boom.. no more spam. Spammers would not be allowed to re-register.

Yeah thats a good idea, maybe the FBI can start it!

Charities and surveys I don't really mind that much if I have time.

But wouldn't telemarketing spammers start hanging up on you if the "do not call" list goes into effect? Otherwise, how are you going to file a complaint if you don't know the info of the company that called you?

I haven't clicked the link yet.

How does this national do not call list differ from the individual states list's?

Heck...sometimes they are the worst! Esp. the local FOP. Last guy who called was quite obstinant...I finally just hung up on him.

For me, i'd say about 75% of calls I get are from local companies, and Caller ID pwnz them. For the rest, all you have to do is listen to their offer to find out who they are. Then after they go thru their pitch, you can let them know that you plan on filing a complaint on them, now that you have all their info.

<-- NY'ker... already done.

I still get calls from chimney-cleaning places though... most prominent of them all... strange eh ?

Best way to get FOP guys to leave you alone is to ask them what % of the money they take in actually goes to buy the vests and stuff they mention to you. That shuts them up pretty quickly since it's usually an embarassingly small number. 😀

Right now, a new protocol is the only thing that can stop spam. I know there's talk about it, but good luck getting everyone to switch from SMTP.

Those stupid people who call "from" the patrolmans association are ALWAYS rude to me. It's bad enough they're wasting my time, but they have to be rude too.

I got sick of it and just stopped using a land line. No telemarketers to my mobile number 🙂

this makes sense, without a new protocol to prevent spoofing, etc , spam can't really be prevented
