The way my checking account is set up is that if I use a teller for anything I get charged a fee. Fine by me, I never do anything inside the bank, always do everything via drive up ATM machine.

Wrote someone a check for $300, and THEY took it to a teller at a National City branch to get it cashed, and I see this in my account:

05/28/2008 TELLER ASSISTED FEE - CASHED CHE Debit $3.00

WTF?

Change the C in City to Sh and double the t. It's more appropriate for that bank. I think I remember seeing that they have one of the worst customer service rankings in the banking industry.

Isn't that one of those "if you can't get a checking account anywhere else come to us" banks?
I'm not sure if it's the same as the National City banks they have here, but if they are, you pay for using that kind of bank.

Hack their website's DNS records. Show the big corporations just how pissed you are with their service.

That, or just change banks.

Ugh, I've had this account for over 10 years, and have my routing and account numbers memorized. I'd have to go to every online bill pay site and change all that info if they have it saved. It's one of those situations like when you have a bad neighbor, sometimes it's easier to just deal with their shit than move.

I'm gonna hit up customer service tomorrow and see what's up.

WTF? I have a free checking account at National City. I've had it for many years, never had any bit of problems with it. Have never incurred any fees, having used tellers quite a few times, and after writing a lot of checks. And I've always gotten great customer service from them. :-\

My credit union doesn't charge me a thing. Well...they did charge me an application fee for a mortgage loan that they turned around and applied to my first month's principle. Otherwise, the cost was free.

I think you have a legitimate complaint. I bank there and there's no such fee in the terms & conditions that I have - but yours could be different since you're in a different state. Better read them first.

I've banked at NCB for years, never had a problem. I get 2% on checking, no fees, reimbursed $2 if I used a non-NCB ATM, free online billpay, free safe deposit box, free checks, a home equity line of credit at prime-1% with no fees. No other bank around here has as good a deal.

I have a free checking account through them along with my mortgage and a home equity line of credit. Never had a problem. Although though I only use the checking account to cash my wife's expense checks, rebate checks, etc.

I used to work for them 30+ years ago when they were Security Bank, mostly as a courier, but I also worked a lot in the vault as a coin counter and at their warehouse.

And thats why they will charge fees like that as they know people like you are to lazy to go to another bank. Yea you will complain but they will just say its in their terms and have a nice day. You will pay their fees for being to lazy and juts come to places like ATOT to whine.

Why are you bitching to us when you should be bitching to them? We sure as hell can't get your $3 back.

pretty much (though not as snotty).
Call and bitch. get your account type changed whatever. You will get that $3 back no question.

EVERY TIME we deal with our bank "directly" (ie with a real person) we're told one thing and the other happens. We call, complain and it's reversed on the spot.

CS in the bank world is 100% gone. I honestly think it has the worst customer service in any industry... yes even more so than Arbys.

At the time I posted the OP their customer service wasn't open. Isn't that what ATOT is for, to come rant about stuff?

In any event, I just called and they said my checking acct. model was very outdated and upgraded me to a free checking account w/ no fees (except for NSF) and $2 refunds for using non-NCB atm machines, similar to kranky's.
