Her skin is bloated now and also the extra will be surgically removed at a later date.

Culp?s husband, Thomas, shot her in 2004, then turned the gun on himself. He went to prison for seven years.

How did they both survive? epic fail.

on a serious note though, good for her and the donor.

Okay after reading it all, I am very moved by the donation and the Dr's who put so much effort into repairing her face.

How did they both survive.. and he only got 7 years? Yikes.

Pretty impressive surgery, I'm happy for her.

wow.... looks like a fun-house mirror distortion... but... could be worse.

Was it buckshot in the shotgun? i seriously dont know how two people can survive shotgun blasts to the face..

For those who are saying "Good for the donor...
Five months ago, she received a new face from a dead woman.

i really dont think the "donor" is too happy about the circumstances...

They left John Travolta alive to swap his face onto Nick Cage

"Culp?s husband, Thomas, shot her in 2004, then turned the gun on himself. He went to prison for seven years. His wife was left clinging to life. The blast shattered her nose, cheeks, the roof of her mouth and an eye. Hundreds of fragments of shotgun pellet and bone splinters were embedded in her face. She needed a tube into her windpipe to breathe. Only her upper eyelids, forehead, lower lip and chin were left. "

wow..just wow..talk about double fail.

doesn't look as good as the french one, but the french one only had a partial replacement. in either case i can see why it was necessary. you woulnd't have wanted to walk around with the faces they had left. risk of cancer and rejection is pretty scary with face transplants. reject the face and ur pretty f*cked. the guy with the hand transplant lost it after a while. the bbc had a documentary on the french woman a while back.

Incredible story. The facial improvement is remarkable. BTW, I think that ad in the middle of the page is awkward in this story.

Amazing what she has gone through. She was attractive, before the dipshit husband blew her face off.

Well, the fact that they both survived coupled with the other quote that there were "hundreds" of pellets makes me think this was birdshot. Even birdshot can be fatal at close range but it's significantly less so. A typical buckshot shell would only have a small number of much larger pellets. Even if it fragmented significantly, there still wouldn't be hundreds of pieces, and it would most likely be fatal at close range. Birdshot, on the other hand, is just weak enough. It's sort of like getting hit with a whole bunch of BBs all at once.

Sad story, glad to hear she can now lead semi-normal life.

Stories like this really make me appreciate small things in life and how fragile it is. It's almost mind boggling how easily one's life can be ruined and how we take for granted the things that we have. Really makes me want to go out and experience life to the fullest while I still can because you never know what's going to happen tomorrow.
