He's a professional eater/consumption artist. I'm sure that he competes in these kind of competitions fairly regularly. They train themselves to suppress the gag reflex and also practice purging. 44.5 hot dogs in - what - 12 minutes? That's very dangerous for the common person. I probably couldn't even finish 3.

I saw a thing on the discovery channel where this little asian dude ate 55 or 54 or something, crazy. I get sick after 2.

That little asian dude IS Takeru Kobayashi. He holds the world record in hotdog eating.

As well as other records. Most Japanese foodstuffs IIRC. Stuff like noodle slurping etc .... i'm sure there's a website documenting his activities somewhere out in cyberspace.

His startling chow prowess made Kobayashi an international celebrity; in 2002 he won a made-for-TV eating competition called Glutton Bowl #1, and in 2003 lost a hot dog-eating contest to a Kodiak bear on the show Man vs. Beast.

Yup, Kobeyashi's world record is 50 hotdogs and buns in 12 minutes. Set it in 2001. Amazing for a 145 lb man.

He actually said that he was disappointed/dejected yesterday because he didn't break his record......thru an interperater of course.

Only thing is, does he really "eat" them ? Eating to me means consuming, not holding stuff in your stomach for a short time.

If you throw up, you are disqualified.

He breaks the hot dog in half and pretty much swallows them whole and washes it down the bun which is dipped in water.

I believe the rules simply states that you have to eat the dog and the bun - condiments if you wish - you don't have to chew if you don't want to IIRC and you can't throw up.

However, after the competition is over you can do whatever you want in the privacy of your own toilet. It's quite a skill but not a very redeeming one IMO.
