NAT error in Azureus.(It's showing a yellow smily face.)

I'm using the bit torrent program Azureus. I can get an upload speed, but it's 2kbps or lower. Mostly slower then 1kbps. I did what a website told me to do as far as opening the ports in zone alarm goes, but it didn't help. It uses port 6881 so I tried 6889 and 6975 and 6999, but none worked. So I got out an old computer and tried it with no firewall. Still nothing. I just have a direct conection to my dsl modem, no hub or anything. Whats going on?

And no i'm not d/l illegal files. (Yes there are legal torrents. )

Please help.

It sound like the ports needed by Azureus (6881 and those around it) are blocked. Since you're not using a router, then they are either blocked by the DSL modem (not sure exactly about this) or your ISP.

Could you be running the XP SP2 Firewall by any chance? If you haven't disabled it directly or opened up those specific ports, then it could be the problem.

check your xp firewall like blueweasel said.

then if it still happens, its most likely your modem. you'll have to login and port forward some ports. its the same thing with my westell dsl modem from bellsouth.
