NASCAR with Toyota

Well if you are a NASCAR fan this is an interesting little tidbit. Toyota will be racing in the Nextel Cup Series in 2007. They currently will be featured in 3 teams. This will add some new interest and help clean up the stale taste/feeling I have had with NASCAR over the last couple of years. I got a hunch that if they can put some good drivers in the seats of those cars that the "old" establishment will have plenty to worry about.

And starting in 2007, all the cars will be the same except for the engine and nosepiece. NASCAR's "Car of Tomorrow" will have very little aerodynamic difference between the makes and will all have the same chassis.

So it's all going to come down to engine tuning, mechanical durability, and drivers.

Might as well have an IROC race every weekend. Looks like a big mistake to me.

Interesting observation and well stated. IROC has it's own little niche with the concept of everybody racing the same car/equipment...may the best man win. Somehow you just gotta feel that Toyota should be able to put a competitive drive train into NASCAR's "car of tomorrow"....and I agree I think its a big mistake. Thats what make the cup series so interesting and what generates so much fan support. Most fans have a favorite Driver...and the also have a favorite car...Ford/chvey/dodge/pontiac. If you start putting them in cookie cutter cars it could dampen fan enthusiasm.

In the last few years Nascar has grown faster than any other sport.

You mean like they did in the Truck Series with Todd Bodine and Mike Skinner?

you know what i find even better? is that JUST because its toyota, that they will be cleaning up the stale taste, because the Toyta entry is SO different than the GM/Ford/DCX entries that it makes it less stale

They already all look alike.

The main difference will be the "setup".

Agreed!

Now lets talk about the diversity program.

That't right. And, as for me, having Toyotas on the track will give me something more to cheer against. I'm a Chevy and Dodge fan. Even if Tony Stewart (my longtime favorite driver) gets in a Toyota, I'll gladly root against him.

I heard that 'Red Bull' is going to be one of the sponsors for the Toyota...and Michael Waltrip will be one of the drivers.
