NASCAR when it was cool

yup!

A 1964 Ford Fairlane 500 prepped for NASCAR duty, is taken around the 'ring.

prepare to have your ears/mind blown.

Huh...huh...thats cool...

Nothing sounds better than a good ole American iron V8

What's really mind-blowing too is that these cars were very heavy and the technology was very crude when you factor in the degree to which the cars needed to be stock. I had a good friend, an engineer, tell me one time that the cars practically defied the laws of physics on any given race weekend.

That must have sounded so intimidating to the drivers that were getting passed. They'd be used to the refined sounds of a flat 6 Porsche or big BMW sliding by, and here comes this visceral ROAR that shakes the ground!

Nascar was never cool.

That is a cool video though.

Even though I think nurburgring lap times are meaningless it would be interesting to see what this thing could do. Sure looked fast on the straights, not so fast in the corners.

You can hear the tires complaining quite a bit when he's turning!.

When you consider what that old tech is doing its pretty sweet... As for Nascar I dont always agree with what they do for the sport, its atleast a drug free sport or should say the try the most to keep it that way... Plus the tech that they are up to now with the rules they have to follow really makes a sport that I have always admired... 900HP from a 358cui single 750cfm carbed overhead valve pushrod motor with all kinds of limitations to me proves the statement "good old American knowhow" is still getting it done... Sure Toyota is in there now and doing well but they take what Toyota gives them and make it their own with internals and tricks that would baffle even the best... Also given the weight and tire size and the frick`in goofy areo package they have to run the cars still perform like nothing else on the planet... Nascar is an ever changing sport and like everything else it will never be perfect but damn when 43 cars take the green flag and pass the start finish at any race and you dont get a stiffy then your either impotent or dead...!

NASCAR has it's allure and I watched when I was younger, but it's gotten way to commercialized for my taste, so I don't watch or keep up with it anymore. I was at Talladega in 2000 when Earnhardt came back to win from 18th with 5 laps to go, that was pretty badass.

People criticize NASCAR for oval tracks, but that keeps the racing close (more wrecks :awe🙂 and makes it so much better spectators watching. Even with our cheap grandstand seats at Talladega, we could see 98% of the track.

Race on Sunday, sell on Monday is a concept I wish they stuck with.

I think Nascar would be significantly more interesting if the vehicles raced had more of a connection with the vehicles in the showroom. While it's interesting what they can do with the cars it would be MORE interesting if I could walk into a dealer and buy one. 😀

National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, because the showrooms are filled with RWD V8 cars. The only thing remotely connected to "stock cars" is that all the car look pretty much the same.

Looking the same was idea to level the playing field and use the same template for every car (but they are not the same underneath)... Nationwide series is next...

I would much rather our "stock cars" than front wheel drive 4 cylinder rice spitters and sounding like a swarm of killer bee`s being expelled from whoopie cushion or having to watch a sour kraut thrashing machine with Bubba`s Motor Works (BMW) on the hood and wienerschnitzels for spring rubbers... Besides they would have to for go the chase for Octoberfest... 😵
