Nasa going to mars. You're chosen. Would you go?

Assuming Nasa decided to go to Mars and had all the technical details worked out and you were chosen to go, would you go? Or would you stay right here on Earth?

Screw mars. I want them to build a moon base so I can go there and build a indoor paintball field on it.

Think how awsome it would be! :D

In a heartbeat, and I have a family. It would be an opportunity that I simply could not pass up.

First off, I saw that movie, so HEEEEELL no.

Second off, I hate NASA, and I would never do a thing for them.

Explain yourself.

Billions of dollars to send a robot to a distant planet to no benefit of our own, and there's a good chance it wouldn't make it(like several others). Why don't we just flush money down the toilet instead? We could be in a lot better position if the space wars never happened.

Except for the fact that they ARE going to happen, therefore we need to be on the cutting edge.
FYI, most major technological advancements and exploration in history had people like you saying the same thing about them. And all those people were wrong, too.

Would I simply land there, plant a flag, and leave like Armstrong did on his trip to the moon, or would I have to live there?

Well, yeah that's one way to look at it. But NASA is constantly pushing technology forward. Many things you take for granted were invented by NASA or for NASA. Plus, we're exploring our galaxy! (or at least solar system) It is perhaps the most important thing we ARE doing with our money. Let's stop pouring billions of dollars down the drain in Iraq before we pull the plug on NASA.

I think they wrote a book on that... Ender's game :p (a little different but pretty close)

back to the OP ... I wouldn't want to go, but would feel obligated becasue it would be such a unique opportunity so I would go after spending long nights convincing myself.
