Check the paragraph on the Crab Nebula from a Hubble photo collection site. It reads:

In the year 1054 A.D., Chinese astronomers were startled by the appearance of a new star, so bright that it was visible in broad daylight for several weeks. Today, the Crab Nebula is visible at the site of that bright star. Located about 6,500 light-years from Earth, the Crab Nebula is the remnant of a star that began its life with about 10 times the mass of our Sun. Its life ended on July 4, 1054 when it exploded as a supernova. In this image, the Hubble telescope has zoomed in on the center of the Crab to reveal its structure with unprecedented detail.

The life of the star ended in fact about 6,500 years before July 4, 1054 A.D.. ;)

They messed up. Forgetting to factor in the lightyears is a mistake that a space organization shouldn't make. Just like that English to Metric conversion that they forgot to do for that Mars Lander.

Time is all relative anyway. What's considered the year 1054 for us is was 946 years ago. Whether or not we subtract ~6500 from that number makes little difference, what we are seeing is the translated version of what happened 946 years after the star exploded, whether that be in the year 1054 in our time calculations, or 5446 BC in our calculations is unimportant. The fact is, as long as we are the only known intelligent beings that exist (except for Dogs because they're obviously intelligent, but not cats because one of them peed on my jacket when I was at a friends house and it was a bad scene some hairballs flew and some guts got ripped out), that being said Dogs and humans are the only intelligent beings known to us and seeing as how dogs don't make calendars, all that matters is our calendar.

Well all are correct and incorrect. It didn't and did happen 6,500 years before July 4, 1054 and on July 4, 1054 and for some it hasn't happened yet. It just depends on which part of time/space your looking at it from. For example for humans located at 10,000 light years away it hasn't happend yet, they will only see it in 2446 years from now. So were able to see it before they do. That's why I hate time/space just like matter and anti-matter everything is right and wrong.
