I've recently started planning on a storage which can be used to store media (Photos, music and videos) and keep backups of the two laptops that we have. Currently I have a USB2.0 disk that has all the media and the backups and it is connected to the 360. Obviously the disk is FAT32 formatted for it to be accessible in 360. And every time I have to transfer media to the disk (or take backup of one of the laptops), I connect the disk to the respective laptop temporarily.
Now I am trying to see how I can achieve the same through a NAS. But it's really important for me to let the XBOX 360 be able to access the storage too (So that I can play music or watch videos or pictures on my fancy TV).
So, I first searched for a storage that allows both the ethernet and USB interfaces. The idea was to connect the USB interface to the 360 and use the networked mount of the disk for taking backups of the laptops or for transferring media to it. I found one disk that seemed to do so (Fantom NAS drive). But I couldn't find if I could format the disk to FAT32 (If it wasn't already). I can't assume anything about it's file-system since it's a NAS too. I also don't know if these devices let you seamlessly use both ethernet and USB interfaces or if I need to switch between the two through some mechanical means.
Another solution can be to have a networked device (Maybe a cheap desktop) that can be used for networked storage and can also have a USB2.0 interface for it to connect to 360. Can this be done? And if so, how?
