I'm planning on putting together a home NAS, and I'm trying to decide which model of HDD to use. Does anyone have any experience with the Seagate Pipeline series?

I'd like to use WD Reds, but the 2TB model is currently running $180 on Newegg vs $120 for the Pipeline. Multiply that by 3 or 4 drives, and the difference really adds up. I'm sure the Reds are cheaper somewhere, but demand generally seems to be really high right now, and it's driving up prices.

The WD Reds are also new drives, they have only been around for a few weeks IIRC.

the price on the red drives is too high right now

They are 1TB/plat drives at 5400rpm with firmware designed to be low power from what I gather.
You can get 1TB/plat 5400rpm green drives for low power
or 1TB/plat 7200rpm seagate drives if you want cheaper ($100 for 2TB, $140 for 3TB) new tech.
