NAS Drive for desktop

I was determined to stick with HGST, and the only ones available at Microcenter where the 4TB NAS.
So I picked one up, just normal desktop use. It's still a Desktar. Not an Ultrastar or anything.

Spent a lot of time googling for reasons not to do that. Of the few differences, the only notable one, I think, is that a NAS drive will spend less time trying to recover data during errors. Which is not really that big a deal? What could go wrong?

Also, I'm looking for a single HD external enclosure, for backups. Can someone recommend a solid brand, and also what the best connection type would be? USB 3.0? Type-C?
 
Nothing wrong with the HGST NAS Drive for Desktop use. They're still 7200RPM, and aside from not being on top of performance benchmarks, they're still the kings of reliability in the consumer market.

I'd say Type-C 3.1 Gen 2 3.5" Hard Drive enclosures are pretty few and far between in the market. They's not really needed because unless you are installing SSD's anyways, you won't come close to saturating a USB 3.1 Gen 1 (also known as USB 3.0) let alone USB 3.1 Gen 2.

Personally, I'd get a solid USB 3.0 unit with a fan and UASP support. I like this unit myself and have seen several in use: https://www.adorama.com/st3510bmu33b.html
