Nas build

You really only need 2 TB usable on this NAS?

I'd probably just grab one of these if that were the case:

Typically people build their own when they want to go beyond the above type of platforms, with 4-6-8 disks and more power, etc. To each their own, but a 2 disk NAS with an option for one more disk seems like a waste, personally. Your next expansion is simply another NAS or replacing both disks.

Not realy becuase those nas are a lot slower than a custom one. This one i built is supposed to have speed of around 115MB read and write

The midrange/high end prebuilts (>$200 for a 2-bay) generally have Atom CPUs and are quite capable of slinging data around at around those speeds.

Although you'll generally be capped at around 100MB/sec regardless. But anyways.

Anandtech has done quite a few reviews of higher-performance prebuilt NAS units - I bet you could easily find one to suit your needs - and it'd have a warranty! 😀

My synology 1513+ will usually get around 100-110MB/sec. That's pretty good and close to max bandwidth on a 1GbE network. I'd buy a pre built nas if I were you...It's a whole lot easier and not much to worry about. Just shove in the drives and format them. Synology makes some good ones.

Lol but look at the price of that thing no way a 300$ nas is gonna be fast

If it has the same processor it will. A lot of the lower priced models have the exact same cpu as their top priced models. It's mainly the extra bays that make it more expensive. I'd be looking at reviews of the ones you think you might like and then make up your mind.

Depends on what you mean by fast. A NAS is really just a conveyor belt for information. Compare the Atom CPU to a 5HP lawn mower or go-kart engine that runs the conveyor belt. If the go-kart engine can move the belt up to the point that it jumps off the track if it goes any faster then there's no point in putting a 357 Chevy in there instead. Even if it will move it faster, there will be other limiting factors.
