That was supposed to have taken place in and around 1980. The plane was a 757 which didnt arrive until 1988 🙂
 
After a long time, I have really liked a TV show. This is really good.

My one big problem with it though is agent Murphy.

The guy who plays him is a dud actor, and his narration is utterly dull and lifeless.

The real agent Murphy, by his own account, landed in Columbia three days before Pablo went to his self styled prison. So the entire depiction of Murphy in the show is bogus.

Carillo or Pena would have been the logical choices for the narration. But one isn't American and the other isn't American enough (not the right ethnicity for the Hollywood . /media).
 
I've been watching this too. It has a very compelling storyline but I feel like the acting is subpar. Also difficult to find the time to watch since you have to be 100% reading the subtitles.
 
Great show and it is unbelievable... but all major events are true.
Killing presidential candidate.
Kidnapping of top news anchor, then dying during raid.
Bombing airliner, etc.
Absolutely crazy that a drug lord could do that and hold a country hostage.

quick question, i'm about to start this tonight and wondering if it's a show that has a lot of sound/explosions/action. wondering if it's something i should definitely watch in the home theater or if normal tv is alright.

Lots of gunfire. The first few episodes have less and are more focused on plot development.

There are some explosions in the opening scene of the first episode if I recall correctly

You have a nice home theater (IIRC), and you are questioning whether you should use it?

What kind of person asks this? 😛

You can perfectly watch it on a regular TV, but, you're always missing something. I don't recall if it had an impressive sound mix or just somewhat average (of course, anything great is made average with the almost-but-not-quite DVD level DD+ soundtrack Netflix pushes out), but it does have explosions and surround effects.

And isn't that enough of a reason to enjoy the home theater experience? 😉

i'm asking because sometimes we will wait to watch stuff in the HT when our son is asleep, other times we'll watch it in our living room on the normal tv while he's in the room playing.

i'm asking if it's one of those that it wouldn't be worth watching on a tv and is worth waiting to find time to watch it on the home theater.

like i'd watch comedies and stuff in my upstairs on the tv when he's around, but a movie like mad max or interstellar, no way i'd watch that on normal tv.

I'd say it's something that you wouldn't go crazy missing out on the full experience, but it can be appreciated when you do have it all. It's still more similar to a network drama than it is some expansive movie. Note, I do say that having only seen a few episodes. It was great, but I rarely binge and sometimes something else grabs my attention. And I have a large backlog of shows to watch now that, after the holidays, my schedule is light. /digress

I think you'll be happy either way. When it's more convenient for one approach, you'll be happy to watch it either way. It won't be like watching a massive loud movie production on a stereo TV.

yeah i watched the first 2 episodes last night on my HT and the show is really good, i like it a lot. definitely not a show i'd be mad if i wasnt able to watch it on my big screen though. even the gunfights thus far had pretty weak sound mix. but overall it's streaming so the sound won't be very good anyways (compared to bluray).

i think watching it with my son around would be a bad idea though due to having to read so many subtitles anyways though lol. definitely need to be looking at the screen and focus on this show. show is awesome so far.
 
finished this show in a week. watched 6 episodes last weekend then the rest over this past week one a night. god damn this show was awesome. i loved everything about it.

those of you complaining about subtitles, i completely disagree. keeping the native language makes it so much more authentic because that is how it really is in those countries. speaking english would completely take that away and take you out of the authentic feel of the show, which i think was done so well.

if you have seen tyrant, this is one of the major flaws in the show imo and makes it seem so bogus (even though i like it). you have the president of middle eastern countries in a meeting with his military speaking in english with these fake ass accents. and all of the regular people speaking in english with the fake accents. it completely takes you out of the place the show is taking place.

Nice! Just finished rewatching B5, gives me time to hit Daredevil and get back on the Narcos train. I wonder how they'll set S4 apart from all the other Netflix Mexican cartel shows, which I haven't watched.

Is Netflix releasing so many series now that they don't have time to tell people when new seasons of their shows come out? I had no clue they were even filming a new season let alone releasing it this month.

I assumed Netflix put the season on hold when their location scout was brutally murdered in Mexico last year. Guess not.
 
Man, I hope this new season is good. If I learned anything from watching the latest seasons of Orange Is The New Black and House Of Cards, it's that Netflix isn't always good at maintaining the quality control on their hit shows.

this is so true.

GF and I couldn't get past like 3 episodes of the new season of OITNB.

Heard HOC is kinda weird with the removal of Spacey (from what I heard)

It's going to be a bit of a dark horse anyway because they've moved over to Mexico for this season, so it won't really have the same type of flavor. And on top of that, season 3 was already a bit of a dropoff without Escobar, who was so much of that show. I thought season 3 was great, but Escobar, and especially the dude that played him, were so damn good.
