Someone mentioned that bearshare installs spyware on your computer, how do i go about disabling it? I use bearshare personally, i miss the old napster with all the nice rare live songs. Its kind of sad now that i think about it.

BlvdKing, I've used both and I prefer Audiogalaxy. I'm only into mp3s, but it seems to have more of those than Kaz/Morph.

I've used WinMX, too and Audiogalaxy has a lot more mp3 files. Audiogalaxy has more obscure titles, too. Not as good as Napster was, but it's the best of what's left for mp3s.

You can connect to 20 servers at once on average with WInMX.
If you can't find it. it aint there.

Wasn't there a problem with Audiogalaxy that it opened some backdoor to your computer? Is that problem solved?

All music genre's suck.... I listen to a wide variety because there are a lot of freak/ suckies in every genre. It seems like if you want to be a star... just be a freak.

Macro2, I am an old progressive rock DJ from the 1970s and I've been collecting records since 1965. The first three 45 rpm records I bought at age 9 were Help by The Beatles, Satisfaction by the Stones and Like A Rolling Stone by Dylan.

My latest project (just completed after several months) was taking the Billboard Top 40 Country and Rock 'Roll books by Joel Whitburn and downloading most of those hits. WinMx struck out many times, but audiogalaxy (and Napster) never did.

I'm also into old country, jazz and swing hits from as far back as the 1920s.

WinMx is good, but it just doesn't have the variety of mp3 titles that audiogalaxy has. Your statement is not accurate.

I will agree that WinMx is sometimes a much faster download than audiogalaxy, but sometimes WinMx is awful slow, too. And sometimes audiogalaxy is pretty fast as well.

I haven't used BearShare, but I took WinMX off my system because when it could not find all the mp3s I wanted. Audiogalaxy and the old Napster could.

It's not the program which is bad. Napster now has filters on its servers. When you search for copyrighted music (name of artist/song, including all 'alternative' spellings (typos)) you won't get any results.

No more britney spears, Nstink, Back Door Boys or other trash thus :D:p

And then there was 5. ;)

I just searched "Beatles" on WinMX at got over 6000 mp3 results. Maybe I have a better server list.
over 7000 for "rolling stones"

The audiogalaxy agent software includes spyware named Webhancer customer companion (or something...), and it's not a problem if you have ZoneAlarm which wont let it "call home"...

So it's not a "problem" in the software and will not be "solved"..

All I can say is watch out for Swaptor.
They are located on an island in the Caribbean (likely pretty hard to touch by the Lawyers) and are now up to 5 servers. 1 of which can handle, get this...10,000 connections.

Since, music city/morpheus is so large, I expect the powers that be to go after them next.

I do not understand why anyone would say something bad about Napster. They have to comply or get shut down. They were the pioneer. The Martyr so to speak. If you don't like what's happening to Napster, write your Congressman or boycot groups that actively what their stuff filtered out.

Agree with ya' Macro on Napster. They were the greatest. It's sad to see those guys get slammed. They are heroes to me.

And if WinMx gets the job done for ya', hey, no problem! Enjoy!'

I just find the rarer, harder-to-get stuff on Audiogalaxy instead of WinMx. 6,000 or 7,000 hits really doesn't mean anything - most of that is duplicates. Folks should use whatever whets their whistle.

I've got a collection of cool Brittany Spears covers. I never thought I'd hear so many versions of "hit me baby..". I actually like the one by Travis. ;)
