While connecting to Napster network I noticed the message in the server response. (not using Napster front end)
Then I noticed Napster server had somehow probed my shared files and hotlist for people on the napster network even though I wasn't using the Napster front end.
Apparently big bro is watching...

Napster was the best for about 1.5 years, but since February, it's been filtering itself into oblivion. I use audiogalaxy.com now, but nothing so far has beaten Napster in its heyday last year.

I will miss it.

Morpheus doesn't have all the songs that Napster had. I can't find some songs that Napster would come up with. I mean, I would search for a song that I really thought wouldn't be on Napster and it would just pop up with one or two users having the song. It's a trip. I really miss Napster too.

Napster was great while it lasted. What was so nice about it was the UI. Even my dad could figure out that software. ;)

I personally think whatever people flock to will be the next best thing. When lots of people are on it, the song library gets pretty good. I use WinMx right now and it's ok. I find pretty much what I need, but miss some of the more obscure stuff that only a huge user base can give you. What I like about WinMX is that the download speeds are pretty good. I was using Limwire for a short time and couldn't stand all the lousy download speeds I was getting.

Anyway.. I should check out the software mentioned here. Do you think I'd like it better than WinMX?

Salvador is exactly right. Napster was great cause everyone used it, not because of the software itself. If everyone moves to a different client, it will be just as great.

Unfortunatly, when everyone DOES move to one client, it paints a big red bullseye on it

I miss napster too but it had some major flaws when searching. For example when i searched for the english group The Mission, i got 1009376 hits on Mission impossible theme.
I use Audiogalaxy and find it pretty good.

You get good download speeds on Morpheus. I think they allow you to get part of the file from different users which is a cool feature instead of downloading everything from one person

I have been using Bear Share and find it almost as easy to se as reliable as Napster. There's never as many selections per song as there was with Napster but it has been growing significantly since it's inception and is considered by many to the be the heir apparent to Napster. It's a Gnutella front end for those that aren't familiar with it and it installs spyware in case you don't have a filter for that sort of thing.

I tried Audiogalaxy last night, It is awesome! I think I downloaded about 2GB worth of music in the time frame that I was messing with it.

For those who have used both Audiogalaxy and Morpheus: Which one is better? In better, I mean which one has the most songs and fastest download speeds. I'm not going to include bit rate, the general public likes to use 128-196KB.

<< napster sucks
it has always sucked and WILL always suck
>>

That was an terribly ignorant comment. During Napster's peak you could find anything and download it at a fast speed. It ruled!

-I always thought it was short on country music, and I'm not even a big country fan. I could rarely find any Mindy Mcready or Martina Mcbride on there.

Yes, MusicCity Morpheus aka Kazaa, is the top mp3 P2P program right now.
Simlar interface to Napster and can find any type of media including videos, images, and documents. The slight problem with Morpheus is that it takes up, for me, twice the resources Napster did. Not a big problem for me, but there are those who would find it a major problem.

I am surprised that nobody has mentioned Aimster, is there some reason for that, it's very easy to use like Napster and the song hits are very reasonable.

<< wow, so all 10 napster users are going to have to upgrade? >>

I think they're down to 6 users.
