Too bad free isn't good enough for some people.

Napster also has free 30 day trial: http://www.napster.com/tv/ And yes, you have to pay to keep the music, just like all legal commercial music services.

Free isn't good enough when it's:

1. a free cruise!
2. a free thingamajig (just pay shipping and handling)!!!
3. Napster

Doesn't look very free to me..

it might be useful to know that the only way you can listen to that music is if you continue to be a member of napster.

You could always record it on your reel-to-reel tape setup by placing a microphone near your speakers........

The offer by Napster is a valid "shareware" trial for the weekend. You do get free access for the weekend to see if the service is to your liking and worth the investment for month to month subscriptions. (Or you can go buy a $20 CD from your neighborhood B&M).

Like everyone here, I'm very interested in hot deals. At the same time, I want people to make a living (especially artists that barely make a living in today's world unless they are one of the 0.00000001 percent that are "stars"). The question I have is "Do the artists get more of the revenue stream from online services like Napster or from the Music CD industry? My cynical side says it doesn't matter and that Napster is now no different that the rip-off Recording industry.

If you get Napster's 14.99 deal that lets you download and burn the music, why can't you just move it to an MP3 player, will they then work forever? Even if you cancel your subscription?

No. Your MP3 player must be compatible with their service, which means it has to check in with Napster and make sure you're still subscribed, otherwise the files will lock and you won't be able to play them

Ok mister lars ulrich, hehe. In a perfect world that would be nice. But blame lame ass
consumers who buy trash like britney spears and clay akin. If people bought more
cannibal corpse cd's the world would be a much better place, hehe.

Don't they have a crack out for whatever DRM napster was using. Great way for all the illegal junkies to get decent quality files without much effort.

All you really have to do is set your recording method to Wave instead of Microphone and it records all sounds from Windows in pure digital... I would actually use it but music has been free for quite some time now ;)
