If you're not going to overclock, what's the best memory to get? Example: is Samsung = Crucial, so between the two just get whichever is cheaper?

Carefully about Micron - that name is used in a very lax manner, you might not get what you think you are getting. Crucial is different, it IS a brand name.
Samsung is probably good PC2100, I don't know much about that, I am sure PC2700 by Samsung is first class.
In PC2100 I would opt for Nanya rather than Samsung but that is of course my own preference because I have Nanya and I believe Nanya is good.

Huh? Crucial uses Micron manufactured PCBs and chips, along with some other brands of chips including Samsung.

Samsung makes some good RDRAM, most PC800 can OC to PC1066, just don't know abut their DDR and the overclockability of it. I do know, from experience, that most Micron PC2100 can get to 150mhz.

hynix merger is off for good. both the goverment and the workers do not want foreign owners, they have their own union that threatened strike if the deal went thru cuz micron was planning to lay off thousands, so instead they called the whole thing off. also the creditors did NOT want the deal either, they wanted more money (a la @home's bond investors balking at at&t's $700million offer)

the nForce Memory Compatibility chart must be incomplete,
how come no Micron memory is ok for 420?

why should a mb or mb chipset be picky about memory?
if a memory meets jedec spec, shouldn't it be compatible with any mb or mb chipset or the memory controller that meets jedec spec?
