Nano 7g question (new one)

episodic

Lifer
Hi,

I had recently decided to get one of those foot pod things to do paces on my runs. I like the design of the new nano coupled with the bluetooth option.

Here is my question, there is not alot of information about the nike + on the the new nano. I found one article that says the foot pod isn't necessary with the new nano. I'm not sure how it would be anywhere as accurate as the one on your foot? On the 6g nano you had to have a thing that plugged into the dock port. However, on the new nano they use the lightning port - and I have not seen an updated nike plus system for the new nano?

So what gives, does anyone know? Can you still use the footpod with the new nano? If not, will it be as accurate as it was with the foot pod? I have some guys I run with and their system is more than accurate enough for my needs (usually +/- 3% of a 5 mile run).

Thanks. . .

I've been looking into this because I need a new running device. From what I've gathered, the Nike pod thing doesn't work with the new iPods anymore. They updated the software to use the iPods accelerometer. In general reviews are saying these kinds of devices are not accurate because there is no real way for them to guage distances. It calculates it based on the accelerometer readings multiplied by what it thinks your stride length is (which you have to calibrated). The most recent review I read said the iPod touch had 10%+ discrepancy. I think if you want accurate results while running, GPS is the way to go. I'm now currently leaning to a MOTOACTV. I don't like that it's Android based, but it does have Bluetooth, GPS, and fits on my wrist.
