I've got two

The first is a near perfect example of what I'm looking for when I listen to "melodic metal". It's got the right tempo to keep the intensity up, and the right mix of metal and "clean" vocals.

This one is an example of the times I just want to listen to a decent voice. There's a lot of groups I go to, but sometimes I need something that's pretty focused on the voice.

I'd have to go with
Pink Floyd - Echoes (Live At Pompeii)
Certainly not for everyone, with its 24 minutes of progressive rock.
I usually skip over the middle part myself, which isn't really part of the song anyhow.

Loved 'the 77s - mezzo', awesome instrumental.
First time I've heard that version of the weight as well, awesomeness all around. :whiste:

Man. I haven't seen that in ~25 years. Good stuff, and there's nothing wrong with the middle :^)

On a side note, I've been hearing Pink Floyd referenced as progressive rock a lot lately. I never really thought of them as progressive. I dunno what you'd call it. They're kind of their own thing. Sort of psychedelic rock, but without the ridiculousness you hear from a lot of psychedelic bands. To me, progressive rock is stuff like Yes, Rush, and King Crimson. I'm not a big fan of that brand of progressive rock.

Hmm yeah, I would agree with that description.
They started out in the psychedelic rock genre, but evolved into their own thing.
I wouldn't know how to label their later work, but it definitely had psychedelic roots.

True, the middle part is fine. It gets real old after hearing it numerous times though.
I actually added that to my post to keep first-timers from turning it off and missing out on the awesomeness that is part 2.
