Maybe the reason they do this is because they are being taxed out of their asses.

Make $500,000 last year? Give

$250,000 to the government in various forms of tax.

$250,000 not enough for you to live on???

It's not about being enough to "live on." The government punishes you for being more productive, having special talents, and the ability to be successful. It's just pure idiocy and it's ass backwards.

Awwwwwww poor rich America hating babies.

If they don't like it, they've got plently of money to leave, they should do so.

1. Tax reform powers, Activate! From of: A bill replacing the 18.4 cent/gal federal gas tax with a $5.79/Barrel oil import tariff (would slightly favor domestic oil production and the generation of renewable fuels over importation.) Also: eliminate the payroll tax cap, while exempting everyone's first 20k in income from payroll taxes while also passing a small carbon tax (to provide an incentive to recapture emissions, rather than simply mandating their recapture while also favoring renewable energies slightly), also a tax on mercury emissions from coal;

2. Create an independent body to investigate war profiteering, and thoroughly investigate government waste, pork projects, etc. ie. eliminating all "abstinence only" funding (which
has been thoroughly shown have no positive impact whatsoever) and generally increasing accountability and transparency for government spending, and more thorough auditing. Pass a law making it a felony to mislead congress in an attempt to gain authorization to use military force, and making the deceiver liable for damages for all property and lives destroyed in the use of such force. Make it a felony with no statute of limitations to classify documents for reasons of concealing spending, with no reasonable relationship between the secrecy and national security. Also investigate partisan political behavior of FDA in scheduling drugs contrary to medical evidence (ie. claiming marijuana has no medical uses when it clearly does, and requiring prescriptions for some drugs with excellent safety records.) Investigate usage of government money for partisan political advertisements. Appoint an independent investigator (ie ken starr) to find out if Bush and Cheney have broken the law. If the only thing that comes up is a bj, take the high road and don't ask him about it under oath. Only impeach if you can get them both, with strong evidence.

Notes on current US figures:
25.76 billion dollars revenue per year from gas tax
4,453,000,000 barrels of oil imported annually; An oil import tariff would give all competing domestically produced fuels an equal advantage over imports, while being revenue neutral by repealing the current gas tax (therefore no negative impact on the economy as a whole.)

Exempting the first 20k from payroll tax would benefit most people by $1240, and even minimum wage workers would save $620. If this came along with eliminating the payroll tax cap, then only people making more than $110k/year would end up paying more, and nobody making that much bank has anything to whine about. This plan would yield a net surplus for social security, while introducing a huge economic stimulus for consumers. More than 90% of taxpayers would benefit, and for the poorest 30% the benefit would be a significant 6.2% increase to their overall take home pay.

considering that its the government that provides the system that allowed this hypothetical individual to earn such an excellent income, perhaps he should stfu and be happy for what the system has provided him.

Our country is great because of our people, not because of our government. Remember that.

0) Congressional term limits - two terms max for members of each house [This seems to be a pipe dream, so I'm not counting it in my two.]

There are so many problems with term limits.

*what if the representative is doing a great job and people want to reelect?
*removes experience and knowledge from the congress.
*throws a wrench into the appointment and committee systems.
*bunch more stuff.

personally i think it is quick clear that if the people are willing to reelect a representative than they should be allowed to do so.

One could say the same about the presidency, but even after a president as successful as FDR, such a limit was still thought necessary. The only reason I advocate this is because of the corruption and entitlement to special interests that seems to entrench itself in government's longest serving members. We still have to deal with the same corrupt politicians for decades on end. Being a representative should be a job of service, not a career in and of itself. There are plenty of qualified people to represent any given constituency. Perhaps this will make them more accountable to them...

there is no evidence that new politicians are any less "corrupt" Honest politicians are the most likely to be re-elected, so it seems that you are forcing the good guys out of office.

1. Balanced budget Amendment

2. Restore all the Bill of Rights as written. Including 2nd amendment, property siezures (IRS, DEA and Emiminet Domain)..searches etc etc. This would require nixing about 9/10ths of the laws on the books.

3. whoops you said two..

Liberalism in economics is against what America stands for. It punishes people who are successful and promotes laziness among those who can help themselves but refuse to. Flat tax and welfare reform FTW.

Typical line of reasoning:
"Hey, he makes more money than I do. He should pay more taxes than me."
"Oh, 25% of $500,000 a year is more than 25% of $50,000 a year? Well then he should also pay a higher percentage. He doesn't need all that money."

When did you decide how much money someone needs to achieve their dreams? Why should the rich finance yours? You are not entitled to anything. You can work hard and succeed. Don't give me this crap.

Wow. Just wow. I can't even believe what we've fallen to in this country if anyone really believes this nonsense. That's like something out of Orwell.

This will be the downfall of our nation, if a preponderance of people finally believe that the government is the source of all necessities and good things. Your name sir is truly well deserved.

What exactly did he say that is so wrong? He never said "the government is the source of all necessities and good things" but that without government, prosperity would not be possible. Government provides stable (relatively) currency, a judicial system to enforce contracts, public roads to allow transportation, and education for an efficient worforce among other things. What you end up without these things is Middle Ages-era serfdom or, worse, prehistoric times chaos, which is anything but prosperity. Remember that before you go insulting people for no reason.

Social Security -Dump it if it cant be made right.

Immigration - Specifically tracking down illegals and putting them in camps.

Neither one is ever going to happen and certainly not soon.

(Looks like me and Genx87 have the same concerns, though maybe he is a little more hopeful than I.)
