Name this movie I am thinking of...

It is a movie with a star football player (NFL I think) that hangs out with a retarded kid who gets picked on a lot. Big relationship between the two. Football player dies later in movie. I cried like a baby. Only scene I really remember is (I think the beginning) where the retarted kid is hiding under a car, away from the kid bullies and then his friend peaks under the car...

It reminds me of that movie Lucas (Charlie Sheen, Corey Haim, and some other people).

Lucas (Haim) was a runt nerd that was friends with one of the popular football players (Sheen). Lucas ends up getting on a football field and gets his ass kicked.

I don't think it is either of those movies suggested. This one is a definite tear-jerker for guys!!! I watched it on tv (not a made-for-tv-movie) many years ago.

Nope, not either of those. Is a tear-jerker. Retarted kid ( younger than high school I believe) picked on because of his problems. Is bullied. Finds a hero in a sports star who also takes to liking him. Sports star (football...college or nfl?) later dies in the movie. Cried harder than any movie I will ever know.

Yeah, that was an early 80's movie I think. I think it was called My Bodyguard.

Yeah, that was an early 80's movie I think. I think it was called My Bodyguard.

But Chris Makepeace didn't play a retarded kid.
