You can use anything that ionizes in water. Salt disassocciates into Na+ and Cl-. Glutamic Acid works at a pH less than 4 and it's all over in the body. Ammonium NH4+ will do it. NaOH is a strong base and quickly gives you Na+ and OH-. Biostud has a good one too.
