I really wanna get the alpha pep66 with delta fan. It pushes 38cfm. however, i read that it operates at 47db. I wanna know how loud that is so I'm asking if someone could name something that's about that loud. Thanx.

50db is pretty quiet (if we weren't talking about computer fans:) ); about as loud as you would notice in a small office room with no one talking. Here's a sound level chart from Britannica.com.

My friend got one of those and it is LOUD!

It sounds like a regular stand fan turned on MEDIUM or HIGH.

<<a car driving by on the highway is about 50dB when youre 20 feet from the road.>>

3 dB is a doubling of acoustic power, so the car in Warrenton's example would be perceived as about twice as loud as your fan. Other factors you have to consider are the ambient noise in the environment where the fan will be used and the fact that the fan will be constantly running, as opposed to a transient sound, such as a passing car.

47 db is friggin loud for a fan imo. I'd get one that's around 30 db max.

The computer is gonna be right next by my bed, with the power supply fan blowing next by my head. I have to leave it at night cuz it's how my lan is set up to share the dsl. Dang, it's that loud? I hafta have it nearly quiet to sleep. Maybe I should put it across the room, which's like 10 or 12 feet away. How would that be?
