There was a virus a few months back that was keeping people from getting on the internet... MS released a patch for it on windows update, but most people couldn't stay connected long enough to download it... what was that virus?

Well let's see.

It could be Blaster, or Welchia, that dastardly duo foiled by KB823890
But then it could Backdoor.Trojan, or Trojan.Download, those backdoors into IRC.
Or it could be Gaobot, with its slippery scvhost and refusal to die.

If you lose to the end boss, that's what happens. Then you gotta start all over again from AOL.

I think you're talking about MSblast or its variants and aliases including Lovesan, W32.blaster, Nachie, Walchia...

It didn't disconnect internet access, but a lot of ISPs were disconnecting people when they detected its traffic.

That's true.
Change the mac address to get new IP, d/l all the update and do the scan.
