E38 735i. I'm not sure if that model was actually made, but if it was, it would have only been offered in Europe, and it would have been available with a 5-speed. I know the previous-gen 7-series was made available as such.

According to this, BMW did make an E38 735i. I have no clue if it used a 3.5L V8 or used the OLD 3.5L I6.

Edit: Changed link.

Looks like there were many versions offered in Europe:

750iL: 5.4L V12 + 5-speed auto (326hp)
740i/iL: 4.4L V8 + 5-speed auto or 6-speed manual (286hp)
735i/iL: 3.5L V8 + 5-speed auto or 5-speed manual (235hp)
728i/iL: 2.8L I6 + 5-speed auto or 5-speed manual (193hp)

Drool: E38 740i Sport w/ 6-speed manual!

WTF are you being so critical? I'd say 90% of the people here have "useless car knowledge" and for the people who love cars, it's not useless. I bet you got as much useless knowledge about playmates of the month dating back to when you were old enough to care...like last year!

Like attaining a status other than n00b is a priority in my life. Post count and length of time wasted on the forum are not how I measure mine or anyone elses worth.

Uh? The hell is your problem?

It's not like he pulled all that out of his ass. He was obviously researching.

Though, I could be wrong. :p

Yes, as in that picture, I feel like I'm being attacked by a lower level species with a pack mentality.

Yeah at first I thought the car was a 5 series, never have I heard of a 7 series with a stick - but then I got a better look at the exterior and I just assumed it was something only offered in Europe :)

I remembered from the movie that the Transporter uses a "735i" and I knew from seeing it that it's an E38 7-series. I've always been curious about that car's true specs, so I googled it and came up with this page. So, it was mostly research.

I believe the car was the protection model. I believe the desgnation for the protection model was L, as in 735Li. Not positive though.

The protection models come with bullet proof windows/tires and other security features.

L does not equal "Protection." L = long wheelbase. There is no letter designation to my knowledge for Protection models. And I doubt they would have used one because of the increase in weight would decrease performance.
