too true
LOTS of great bass work on that whole album. Chris Squire really had his own thing going - very few bass players today approach it like he did. That's a shame - that whole funk-metal popping style everyone does is getting really tired now.

lmao, that's the first song I thought of.

Agreed with a couple songs by Yes. I think they're one of the few groups that are truly musicians. I'm thrilled that my son loves their music (he's even met and hung out with a couple members of the band.)

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Rush yet... There are a few songs with bass leads...

And, someone above said "wrong genre" - agreed... The best bass leads are in jazz... listen to some Stanley Clarke - amazing stuff. (And, a lot of it would appeal to people who like rock.) Some of his recent solo stuff isn't quite as good; listen to Clarke/Duke Project II for some good leads.

Hard to believe this thread's at two pages with no mention of Jaco Pastorius, too.

yeah, wooten trades the lead around with the other members in lots of Flecktones songs.

U2's "New Year's Day", "One", and "City of Blinding Lights" have awesome bass lines. "Vertigo"'s isn't as nice, but its pretty loud.

Oh, and definitely "Jenny Was a Friend of Mine" by The Killers.

"Jerry Was a Racecar Driver"

This one is great.
I just listened to it... this isn't bass leading.. it's worse than 'back bass' roles because it just sampled bass played over and over again like rap.

Umm... Primus is a three-man band featuring two bass players and a drummer.

Primus sucks!

Primus does not suck.. Their bassist is quite possibly one of the best out there period..
Musical taste one thing, talent-wise they do not suck at all.

Yep - the whole album is pretty kick ass - I'm surprised we are the only two to mention Stu.

I am more surprised that I am the only person to mention Marcus Miller.

But I should have known there aren't many jazz fans on ATOT.

Jaco is practically a god, Victor is an excellent musician, but you really need to listen to more music/get out more if you think everyone else is "kids stuff".

You are a disgrace. :p
